A taking lens apparatus includes a zoom lens system that is composed of a plurality of lens units and that achieves zooming by varying the distances between the lens units and an image sensor that converts the optical image formed by the zoom lens system into an electrical signal. The zoom lens system has, from the object side,: a first lens unit having a negative optical power, a second lens unit disposed on the image side of the first lens unit and having a negative optical power, a third lens unit disposed on the image side of the second lens unit and having a positive optical power, a fourth lens unit disposed on the image side of the third lens unit and having a positive optical power, and a fifth lens unit disposed on the image side of the fourth lens unit and having a positive optical power. During zooming, the first lens unit remains stationary relative to the image sensor, and the second and third lens units move.

The invention includes arranging the identifiers for each of the nodes to display one or more of the levels in a visual representation of the hierarchy in one of a plurality of directions relative to a higher one of the levels. The invention also includes dynamically expanding and pivoting levels in a display direction in the visual representation of the hierarchy in response to user input.

Multi-directional display and navigation of hierarchical data and optimization of display area comsumption

A mode changing device for a camera employing a minimum number of actuating members to permit a user to change an operating mode and/or setting of the camera. A mode actuating member and a selector switch, used in conjunction with an LCD panel that indicates the mode and setting that has been selected by the user, permits the user to easily select and/or adjust the features of the cameras, such as a photographing mode, a playback mode, an exposure mode, a white balanxe mode, a copy/monitor mode and a time/date mode. When the mode changing device is applied to a still video camera having a playback function, a change-over switch automatically changes the operating mode of the camera from a record mode to a playback mode when a monitoring adapter is connected to the camera, further reducing the number of actuating members that are needed to control the camera. In addition, the camera is designed to minimize the waste of electrical power by inhibiting the operation playback mode until the camera is instructed to begin operating.

A hand-held battery powered data transfer and repository device for transferring data between one or more flash memory modules and a large capacity digital storage device, which may be either external or internal to the device. The device includes one or more slots to accept a flash memory module into a housing which includes processing and logic circuitry disposed within the housing for transferring data between the flash memory module and the large capacity digital storage device. Ports are disclosed for transferring data between the repository and data transfer device to a host device, which may be a wide range of digital appliances including a digital computer, a digital camera, a camcorder or a personal digital assistant.

Enhanced digital data collector for removable memory modules

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high image quality applicable even to a print photograph by using a flair elimination circuit to eliminate a harmful signal component and including a specific negative lens and a diffraction optical element for an image forming lens system. SOLUTION: An image of a pickup object is formed on a light receiving face of a solid-state image pickup element 3 by an image forming optical system 1. An electric signal generated therein is image-processed by a signal processing circuit 6 and converted into a video signal such as an RGB component signal, and a flair elimination circuit 7b eliminates a harmful signal component. Furthermore, a sensor drive circuit 5 drives the solid-state image pickup element 3 to control image storage and read control. The image optical system 1 is provided with an image forming lens system 10, a filter group 11 and a prism 12. The image forming lens system 10 includes negative lenses L3, 4 satisfying a condition of 0.1<-fN/fL<2, where fL is a focal distance of the entire image forming lens and a diffraction optical element L10 satisfying a relation of fL/ fDOE<0.07, where fDOE is a focal distance of a diffraction face.
