Journal ArticleDOI

The Tomato Rhizosphere, an Environment Rich in Nitrogen-Fixing Burkholderia Species with Capabilities of Interest for Agriculture and Bioremediation

TL;DR: The results revealed a high level of diversity of diazotrophic Burkholderia species, including B. unamae and B. kururiensis, and two other unknown species, which exhibited activities involved in bioremediation, plant growth promotion, or biological control in vitro.
Journal ArticleDOI

Burkholderia unamae sp. nov., an N2-fixing rhizospheric and endophytic species.

TL;DR: It was shown recently that the genus Burkholderia is rich in N2-fixing bacteria that are associated with plants, and a polyphasic taxonomic study was performed, which indicated that new isolates that were recovered from rhizospheres, rhizoplanes or internal tissues of maize, sugarcane and coffee plants belong to a novel diazotrophic Burk holderia species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diazotrophic burkholderia species associated with field-grown maize and sugarcane.

TL;DR: Only 111 out of more than 900 isolates recovered had N2-fixing ability as demonstrated by the acetylene reduction assay, and these 111 isolates were confirmed as belonging to the genus Burkholderia by using a new 16S rRNA-specific primer pair for diazotrophic species (except B. vietnamiensis).
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogenetic analysis of burkholderia species by multilocus sequence analysis.

TL;DR: A multilocus sequence analysis of 77 type and reference strains of Burkholderia using atpD, gltB, lepA, and recA genes in combination with the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed two large groups, named A and B, which suggest that each group might represent a different genus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Burkholderia silvatlantica sp. nov., a diazotrophic bacterium associated with sugar cane and maize

TL;DR: Novel isolates were recovered from the roots of different sugar-cane varieties cultivated in diverse geographical regions of Brazil and confirmed that these isolates belong to a novel species within the genus Burkholderia, for which the name Burk holderia silvatlantica sp.
