Coating of cellulose-TiO2 nanoparticles on cotton fabric for durable photocatalytic self-cleaning and stiffness

Formulas are derived for effective bending rigidity and bending length, based on the deformation of fabric strips in simple tests. The nine types of tests (including some new ones) involve a cantilever, heart loop, hanging pear loop, hanging ring, free fold, clamped fold, standing wrinkle (buckle), hanging wrinkle, and standing ring. No loads are applied and no special equipment is needed. Only the height of the deformed strip needs to be measured, along with the strip’s length, width, and weight. The results can be applied with different lengths of strips and different orientations (e.g., weft, warp, and bias directions). In the analysis, the fabric strip is modeled as an inextensible elastica. Polynomial approximations are developed that give the value of a nondimensional weight parameter (involving the weight, length, width, and bending rigidity) as a function of the height-to-length ratio. The bending rigidity and bending length can then be directly computed.

Utility of silver‐coated fabrics as electrodes in electrotherapy applications

Bending rigidity is a significant property of textiles that influences their further behavior, for example draping and wrinkling. The thorough analysis of draping and wrinkling behavior of textiles requires also knowledge of bending rigidity of the textiles in different directions, the so-called anisotropy of bending rigidity. Anisotropy of bending rigidity has been so far mostly measured on rectangular shaped samples; nevertheless, the circular shape seems to be the ideal one. This article presents device TH-7, which enables one to measure this non-standard circular shaped sample. Comparing the results of measuring of bending rigidity on the standard device KES-FB2 with the results of measuring on device TH-7, we can see a very good correspondence, that is, the value of the correlation coefficient equals 0.9. A new method of measuring the bending rigidity of fabrics and its application to the determination of the their anisotropy

In this study, the effect of cellulose coating on dyeing and other properties of cotton fabric was investigated. Three different reactive dyes were used for dyeing coated cotton fabric. The effect of cellulose coating on the dyeing properties of cotton fabric was studied by determining the K/S values of coated substrate at different concentrations of cellulose and dye. The K/S value decreased by 40–60 % with increasing coating concentration of cellulose from 0 to 5 %. The results show that the stiffness was increased from 0.16 to 2.50 N/m by coating of cellulose on the surface of cotton fabric. The stiffness was permanent as confirmed by ten multiple washings. Mechanical properties remained excellent. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the amount of cellulose II increased slightly after solvent treatment. Fastness properties of cellulose-coated cotton fabrics against rubbing, washing, and perspiration were good.

Dyeing and stiffness characteristics of cellulose-coated cotton fabric

Creasing is one of the most important properties of textiles for apparel application. Most fabrics are regularly evaluated by means of etalons, that is, visual standards. Nevertheless, due to the disadvantages of visual evaluation, which is unreliable and time consuming, several objective methods were developed. In this article, a new objective method of multidirectional evaluation of creasing is described. We have proposed the test method of angle recovery using image processing. The specimen of the fabric was of a circular shape and it was measured by the method of angle recovery in various directions. We compared the results obtained from our method with the method described by Sommer and by the hollow cylinder method also. We found good conformity between the results obtained from our method and the method described by Sommer.

Suitability of nanofiber layers for various applications is given by their morphological structure and physical properties. Structure of polymer nanofibre layers is characterized by very small diameter of the fibers and by large specific surface. For these features can polymer nanofibre membranes be widely used for special purposes- sport ,army and outdoor clothing. Thanks to the diameter and large specific surface the polymer nanofibre layers were used as a supporting structure for polyurethane hydrophilic coating. The main goal was to create 100 per cent wind resistant and water resistant coating with increased ability of steam permeability.
