Although the numerical manifold method (NMM) has successfully solved many solid and flow problems, it has scarcely touched upon the analysis of shell problems. A shell is a genuine visible manifold in the real world and in principle NMM is pretty suitable to solve shell problems. This study aims to fill in the gap by employing the Naghdi shell model to establish NMM for shell analysis. The mathematical cover is constructed using the lines of curvature on the shell middle surface so that the best interpolation precision can be ensured. Thereafter, the standard 4-noded isoparametric shape functions are taken as the weight functions subordinate to the mathematical cover. Taking advantage of the favorable features of NMM, especially the facility to perform the p-adaptive analysis without compromising the element conformity, a high-order NMM model is employed to suppress the membrane and shear locking phenomena. Several typical shell benchmarks have been analyzed to testify the performance of the formulation in the static analysis of thin shell problems, manifesting that the proposed method can yield desirable results for linear thin shell problems, thus richly deserving the word “manifold”.

The linear analysis of thin shell problems using the numerical manifold method

With the popularization of air conditioning system (A/C) in reality, A/C system control problems are focused on. This article presents a survey of different automatic control techniques that have been applied in A/C systems. Characteristics of the A/C systems are described and variables that should be controlled are discussed. A classification of the control approaches is used to explain the main features of these strategies used in A/C systems. This article clearly shows that, with the improvement of people's living standard and emergence of worldwide environmental and energy problems, there are increasing requirements of more advanced A/C control strategies. Studies of control methods presented in this paper are summarized. Development and new trends of A/C control approaches are analyzed.

Automative air conditioning system control — A survey

Enlightened by distribution of creatures in natural ecology environment, the distribution population-based genetic algorithm (DPGA) is presented in this paper. The searching capability of the algorithm is improved by competition between distribution populations to reduce the search zone.This method is applied to design of optimal parameters of PID controllers with examples, and the simulation results show that satisfactory performances are obtained.

According to the tuning rule of PID control parameters, IAE, ISE, ITAE, ITSE performance criteria are chosen to be optimization object, a new optimization method of PID control parameters tuning based on Election-survey Optimization Algorithm is presented, and is applied to design optimally a PID control, and the simulation results show that satisfactory performances are obtained by means of this method developed.

In the optimization design of the double universal coupling,it uses the outside and inside diameters of intermediate shaft as design's variables.Under the condition of given transmitting torque,to make the weight of intermediate shaft the lightest,and the intermediate shaft must satisfy to the constrains of strength,rigidity,vibration condition,stability and the boundary condition.In this paper,it uses competitive algorithms in the optimization design of the double universal coupling.The example shows that,a competitive algorithm has high global optimizing ability,and it can find the solutions faster and better than other optimum methods.

Optimization of double universal coupling using competitive algorithms

A triangular or rectangular element was used for the numerical computation in a general numerical manifold method(NMM).For many practical problems,a polygonal element can adjust to the complicated configuration of a computational domain easily,hence a polygonal manifold element is analyzed for numerical computation.The convex polygonal mesh for a manifold element is constructed based on a Delaunay triangulation mesh.An improved Wachspress shape function is used as a weight function of the numerical manifold method.The validity of the proposed numerical manifold method is illustrated by the analysis of a thin plate bending problem.Numerical manifold formulas and element matrices are also derived for the numerical example.The results show that this method,compared with the finite element method,can improve accuracy and convergence greatly.

Polygonal manifold element for thin plate-bending analysis

In this paper, Election Campaign Optimization algorithm is applied to solve the difficulty in PID control that the tuning parameters of PID controllers could not be determined well by conventional methods. Tuning PID controller parameters is a typical three variable optimization problem without constraint condition. An example is employed to test this method, It is found that the method could be find the best parameters that can bring on a optimal control performance, the simulation results is better than that in involved reference. This indicates that the tuning method is feasible.

Tuning digital PID controllers for discrete-time system by Election Campaign Optimization algorithm

Based on cover system with triangular mathematic mesh.A new weight function is constructed to form a multi-node global cover function.This numerical manifold method is applied to analyze the plate bending deformation.Numerical manifold formulas and element matrices are derived in this paper.C0 and C1 local polynomial is adopted as the node cover function.The result show that numerical manifold method with multi-node triangular element,compared with finite element method,can improve accuracy and convergence greatly.
