Journal ArticleDOI

Intermittent micro-aeration: New strategy to control volatile fatty acid accumulation in high organic loading anaerobic digestion.

TL;DR: It is suggested that rapid VFA conversion and CH4 production were carried out by facultative anaerobes and hydrogenotrophic methanogens under micro-aerobic conditions and can be applied as an effective control strategy for high OLR AD processes especially in the event of VFA accumulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antimicrobial use and resistance in swine waste treatment systems.

TL;DR: The levels of tetracycline and MLSB resistance remained high throughout the waste treatment systems, suggesting that the potential impact of land application of treated wastes and waste treatment by-products on environmental levels of resistance should be investigated further.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prospects for Biological Nitrogen Removal from Anaerobic Effluents during Mainstream Wastewater Treatment

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of nitrogen removal in anaerobically treated wastewater is presented, identifying how to control and retain the most desirable microorganisms, and considering the impact of reactor configuration on performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantification of Methanosaeta Species in Anaerobic Bioreactors Using Genus- and Species-Specific Hybridization Probes

TL;DR: Small-subunit rRNA targeted oligonucleotide hybridization probes were developed and experimentally characterized and it was determined that Methanosaeta spp.
