Two new heat pipe applications are described. One is a special heat pipe heat exchanger, which is used as a regenerator-heater for a molecular sieve system for the gas separation of krypton and xenon in a nuclear fuel recycling system. The other one is a heat pipe pyrolysis cleaning furnace, which is used for cleaning of plastic manufacturing and forming tools. The regenerator-heater is designed to operate at 260 ° C to 300 ° C and comprises seven electrically heated axial-groove copper/water heat pipes, which are provided with a stainless steel envelope for pressure containment (1.4 m length, 0.0215 m outer diameter). The pyrolysis cleaning furnace mainly consists of a co-axial wickless stainless steel/potassium heat pipe (4.8 m length, 0.33 m outer diameter), operating at about 480 ° C to 540 ° C, which is indirectly heated by a set of cartridge heaters, via a heat pipe chamber at the lower bottom end of the co-axial heat pipe.
