A secure telephone call management system is provided for authenticating users of a telephone system in an institutional facility. Authentication of the users of the telephone call management system is accomplished by using a personal identification number, biometric means, and/or radio frequency means. The secure telephone call management system includes accounting software capable of limiting access to the system based on funds in a user's account, and includes management software capable of implementing widespread or local changes to the system. The system monitors a conversation in the telephone call to detect a presence of a first characteristic in audio of the conversation, and terminates the telephone call if the first characteristic does not match a second characteristic of biometric information of a user or a called party.

Telecommunication call management and monitoring system with voiceprint verification

It is possible today to automate a growing number of speaker-recognition tasks with such technologies as speaker verification and speaker identification. Like human listeners, voice biometrics use the features of a person’s voice to ascertain the speaker’s identity. Systems performing this function have been applied to real-world security applications for more than a decade. Their use is increasing rapidly in a broad spectrum of industries, including financial services, retail, corrections, even entertainment. Here, I provide an overview of speaker verification and speaker identification, focusing on deployed, real-world technologies and the types of applications being used today.

Voice biometrics

A system and method for the automated monitoring of inmate telephone calls as well as multi-modal search, retrieval and playback capabilities for said calls. A general term for such capabilities is multi-modal audio mining. The invention is designed to provide an efficient means for organizations such as correctional facilities to identify and monitor the contents of telephone conversations and to provide evidence of possible inappropriate conduct and/or criminal activity of inmates by analyzing monitored telephone conversations for events, including, but not limited to, the addition of third parties, the discussion of particular topics, and the mention of certain entities.

System and Method for Multi-Modal Audio Mining of Telephone Conversations

The present invention discloses a centralized, digital, computer-based telephone call management system for authenticating users of a telephone system in an institutional facility. The system includes the capacity to allow an institution to control, record, monitor, and bill and report usage and access to a telephone network. The telephone call management system further includes both accounting and management software for use in controlling, monitoring, billing, recording, and reporting usage and access. Also, it can operate over both a Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) and a Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) infrastructure.

Digital Telecommunications Call Management and Monitoring System

Disclosed herein is an automatic dual-step, text~ independent, language-independent speaker voice-print creation and speaker recognition method, wherein a neural network-based technique is used in a first step and a Markov model-based technique is used in the second step. In particular, the first step uses a neural network-based technique for decoding the content of what is uttered by the speaker in terms of language~ independent acoustic-phonetic classes, wherein the second step uses the sequence of language-independent acoustic-phonetic classes from the first step and employs a Markov model-based technique for creating the speaker voice-print and for recognizing the speaker. The combination of the two steps enables improvement in the accuracy and efficiency of the speaker voice-print creation and of the speaker recognition, without setting any constraints on the lexical content of the speaker utterance and on the language thereof.

Automatic text-independent, language-independent speaker voice-print creation and speaker recognition

Applying speech technology in appliances available around the world cannot restrict the functionality to a certain language. However, most of today's text-independent verification systems based on Gaussian mixture models, GMMs, use an adaptive approach for training the speaker model. This assumes that the world model incorporates the same language as that of the target speaker. We investigate language mismatches between the target speaker and the world model in a GMM speaker verification system. Experiments performed with different world model languages showed major degradations, in particular for Mandarin and Vietnamese when the target speakers spoke American English. Experiments with world models trained on data pooled from different languages revealed only minor performance degradations.

Language dependency in text-independent speaker verification

In this paper we introduce the concept of a continuous speaker verification system in a mobile phone environment. The system verifies the speaker during the phone call. We discuss speaker-centric score normalisation and time pattern analysis which extends a speaker verification system to allow continuous verification. Experiments showed that speaker-centric score normalisation improved performance. Moreover, it standardises the target score distribution to allow the accurate prediction of miss probabilities. The performance evaluation of time pattern analysis revealed an impostor locking of 95% while the target speakers remained unlocked.
