Journal ArticleDOI

Mangrove tannins and their flavanoid monomers as alternative steel corrosion inhibitors in acidic medium

TL;DR: In this paper, a semi-empirical approach involving quantum chemical calculations using HyperChem 6.0 was undertaken to explain the adsorptive behavior of the molecules on the steel surface, and the most probable adsorption centers were found in the vicinity of the phenolic groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization and performance of Rhizophora apiculata mangrove polyflavonoid tannins in the adsorption of copper (II) and lead (II)

TL;DR: The wasted barks of Rhizophora apiculata mangrove from charcoal industry were explored as a potential source in producing tannins-based adsorbent for heavy metal ions as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study on the Structure of Mangrove Polyflavonoid Tannins with MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry

TL;DR: Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry is a suitable method for examining polyflavonoid tannin oligomers as it is capable to determine aspects of their oligomeric structure and characteristics, which are otherwise too difficult to determine by other techniques.
Journal ArticleDOI

Possible improvement of catechin as corrosion inhibitor in acidic medium

TL;DR: In this article, the modification of mangrove tannin (MT) and catechin (CT) to enhance their corrosion inhibition properties was described, and the effect of the starting materials and the chemically modified products on the corrosion of mild steel in 1M HCl solution was studied by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).
Journal ArticleDOI

Mangrove (Rhizophora apiculata) tannins: an eco-friendly rust converter

TL;DR: In this article, the transformation of rust in the presence of 5 g L−1 tannins extracted from mangrove (Rhizophora apiculata) barks was studied.
