Journal ArticleDOI

Carbohydrate metabolism in uninfected and trematode-infected snails Biomphalaria alexandrina and Bulinus truncatus

TL;DR: Schistosome infection of the snails Biomphalaria alexandrina and Bulinus truncatus affected their citric acid cycle pathways; especially those concerned with succinic and cytochrome oxidases as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Studies on the mode of action of some molluscicides on the snail, Biomphalaria alexandrina. I. Effect of Bayluscide, sodium pentachlorophenate, and copper sulphate on succinate, glutamate, and reduced TMPD oxidation.

TL;DR: The relation between the molluscicidal activity and the inhibitory action on the intermediary metabolism of the snail is discussed and Bayluscide and sodium pentachlorophenate in very low concentrations stimulated the oxidation of all tested substrates, while higher concentrations inhibited their oxidations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Growth rate and changes in tissue carbohydrates during schistosome infection of the snail biomphalaria alexandrina

Ahmed M. Mohamed, +1 more

TL;DR: A marked decrease in the glycogen content of female sex organs, mantle, digestive gland and muscles was observed in infected snails, and glucose utilization was increased in infectedsnails.
