The least cultivated of the Phaseolus domesticates. P. acutifolius Gray, is a unique dry bean grown on a small scale in regions of the world where environmental or pathological stresses do not favor common bean cultivation. It is called tepary (southwestern United States), tepari (Sonora and Sinaloa, Mexico, from an Opata Indian term), tecuzi (Chihuahua, Mexico), and escomite or xmayum (southern Mexico, from Mayan Indian terms)o White seeded types predominate in many regions and hence its name is simply the translation of “little white bean” in the indigenous language. Tepary seeds are smaller than those of most common bean varieties. They have an excellent flavor similar to that of common beans and they can be prepared in much the same manner (NIETHAMMER, 1983).

Evolution and Diversity of Phaseolus acutifolius Genetic Resources

This paper extends the Bueckner-Rice weight function method to interface crack problems in anisotropic bimaterials. This method allows one to use a known crack solution to determine any other solutions for the same geometry. It is shown that, other than a different moduli matrix, the interface weight function relation is formally identical to that in the homogeneous case, and many existing results for homogeneous crack analysis can be directly applied to the interface crack problem. For collinear cracks between two elastic half-spaces satisfying a non-oscillatory condition, a correspondence principle is established so that an anisotropic crack solution could be obtained by simply ‘vectorizing’ the corresponding isotropic solution.

Weight function method for interface cracks in anisotropic bimaterials

Karyotype analysis of the seven varieties of Vicia faba L., namely BPL-4070, HBP-A, L-82009, IC-526385, IC-424900, IC-391651 and IC-361499 procured from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, was carried out to ascertain whether varietal differences are marked by chromosomal features. All the varieties exhibited diploid status with 2n = 12 chromosomes each, with perceptible differences in the conventional karyotypic features, total chromatin length (TCL) and the total form percentage (TF%). The assessment revealed the asymmetric nature of the karyotypes; telocentric chromosomes are most frequent, representing the advanced status of the V. faba varieties studied. A pair of satellite chromosome was observed in mitotic metaphase in all the varieties except L-82009, in which secondary constriction could not be discerned.
