The multicomponent analysis of conjugates of neutral steroids in urine by lipophilic ion exchange chromatography and computerised gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

The reduction of TcO4- to TcO2·nH2O by Fe(II) in slightly acid to basic solution has been investigated in an all-glass reaction vessel with a hydrophobic inner surface. The three-electron reduction process, although thermodynamically feasible, was found to proceed very slowly if at all. Fe(II) sorbed on the wall of untreated reaction vessels or precipitated as Fe(OH)2(s) or FeCO3(s) was found to reduce TcO4-, the observed rates being proportional to the amount of sorbed or precipitated Fe(II). The experimental results are discussed in light of the standard redox potentials and possible reaction paths leading from TcO4- to TcO2·nH2O.

Reduction of Pertechnetate by Ferrous Iron in Solution: Influence of Sorbed and Precipitated Fe(II)

A deactivation procedure is described based on a published method using hexamethyldisilazane in the gas phase. In addition to unusually high inertia and thermostability, the method produces truly neutral columns which allow simultaneous analysis of moderately strong free acids and bases. The silylated columns show their full potential only with on-column injection. Preliminary experimental directions are given; more elaborate directions will become available after extended optimization work.

Teil bezweckt, die wichtigsten Zusatzinformationen zu vermitteln, welche einen erfahrenen Benutzer gepackter GC-Saulen in die Lage versetzen, Kapillarsaulen hoher Qualitat uber langere Zeit hinweg zu hoher Leistung zu bringen. Diese Informationen betreffen ausschlieslich Glaskapillarsaulen, da sich deren Leistungen in mehrfacher Hinsicht weit uber jene von Kapillaren aus Metall oder anderen Werkstoffen steigern lassen. Praktische Anleitungen zur Vorbereitung, zum Einbau in den Gas-Chromatographen, und zum Betrieb von Glaskapillarsaulen werden gegeben. Viel Raum wird der grosen Zahl haufig auftretender und zum Teil einschneidender Storungen-welche bei gepackten Saulen meist belanglos sind-sowie ihrer Feststellung und Behebung gewidmet. Die Sammlung solcher, aus der Arbeit mit gepackten Saulen nicht direkt ableitbarer Erfahrungen soll zeigen, welche Randbedingungen zum analytischen Erfolg entscheidend beitragen. Sie soll damit der verbreiteten Tendenz entgegenwirken, bei einem Miserfolg die Ursache zuerst bei der Kapillarsaule zu suchen.
