Charnockites and the genesis of gem minerals

TL;DR: Charnockitic rocks that occur in many Proterozoic high-grade metamorphic terrains correspond to regions of crustal thickening and are often associated with continental collision processes as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Environmental impact of mining, erosion and sedimentation in Sri Lanka

TL;DR: The Central Highlands with very steep slopes and a radial network of rivers that begin in these mountainous regions can cause major erosional hazards, often resulting in disastrous landslides as mentioned in this paper.

The rare-earth element abundance in the sedimentary gem deposits of Sri Lanka

M.S. Rupasinghe, +1 more
- 01 Jan 1984 -
TL;DR: The authors reported some of the first rare earth elements (REE) data from the gem-bearing sediments in Sri Lanka and found that the REE in these placer deposits are highly enriched, particularly in the light rare-earth elements, and that the progenitors for the rare earth element are the magmatic charnockite-granite association, prevalent in the Highland Group in which all gem fields of Sri Lanka are found.
