Journal ArticleDOI

Dielectric breakdown of cryogenic liquids in terms of pressure, polarity, pulse width and impurity

TL;DR: In this article, the polarity effect of breakdown in liquid N 2 (liq.N 2, reverses with pulse width, pressure and electrode distance, and the electron avalanche seems to play an important role.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dependence of polarity effect of dielectric breakdown on molecular structure of liquids

TL;DR: In liquid hydrocarbon, at short electrode distance, the negative needle indicates lower strength than that of positive needle and it reverses at longer electrode distance as discussed by the authors, and the critical distance of this polarity reversal is very short for liquids with large electron mobility like neopentane.
Book ChapterDOI

Breakdown characteristics and mechanisms of cryogenic liquids

TL;DR: In this article, the breakdown characteristics of liquid with large electron mobility were studied and anomalous polarity effect that non-uniform field with positive needle indicates higher strength than the uniform field was observed.
