The effect of the application direction of the kinesiology tape on the strength of fatigued quadriceps muscles in athletes

With increased tablet ownership in the United States comes increased levels of neck flexion compared to desktop or laptop computer use, and these neck postures have been linked to increases in neck pain. Importantly, tablet viewing postures can be achieved in multiple ways and could be determined by the morphology of the individual and/or other extraneous factors. In this study, we aim to preliminarily evaluate how neck postures vary during tablet use among individuals and link this variation to other factors such as sex, height, weight, presence/absence of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), and morphology of the head and neck. We analyzed two-dimensional landmarks placed on lateral-view radiographs of 22 participants (10 female and 12 male) seated in neutral, upright, fully flexed, semi-reclined, and reclined postures. We utilize geometric morphometric techniques, which are advantageous for evaluating shape variation and have not been extensively applied to biomechanical analyses. We found skeletal morphology to be significantly related to sex and height in all but the neutral posture (P < 0.05), and weight was marginally significantly related to shape in the semi-reclined posture (P = 0.047). Morphologically, male participants exhibited more flexion at the articulatio atlantooccipitalis than females, and females showed greater mandibular protrusion than males, although this result is likely related to height. No relationship was found between posture and TMD. This research establishes a framework for future work that uses geometric morphometric analyses to evaluate how neck postures vary in relation to TMD. Clin. Introduction: Maintaining body temperature by the human body occurs through the control of the autonomic nervoussystem in the cutaneous microcirculation, it is necessary for there to be effective in chemical reactions and consequentmaintenance of homeostasis. The human body exhibits a thermal symmetry. When any asymmetry occurs relating thecontralateral area, there are some evidences of a series of cases, ranging from an inflammatory process to neurovascularchanges. Thermography makes the analysis of the temperature distribution on the surface of the skin, being a tool thatcan be used in assessment and diagnosis of such disorders, contributing to the evolution of the treatment of patientsled to physiotherapy services. Objective: To investigate the importance of thermography as an adjunct diagnostic toolin physical therapy, showing its applicability. Method: This is a literature review using various electronic databasessuch as PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science and SciELO, by crossing the term thermography diagnosis andtherapy. The sample consisted of 8 items. Results: Thermography proved a useful tool in the early diagnosis allowingthe evaluation of local excessive friction prostheses muscle injury, occupational disorders, ischemic areas, and jointoverloads beyond the initiation of an inflammatory process, which still showed no signs and symptoms classic, providingthe physiotherapist take preventative measures and perform rapid and effective intervention. Conclusion: It can beconcluded from the present review that thermography can be used as an excellent diagnostic tool for physical therapybecause it is a non invasive method with no side effects, with good sensitivity and reliability.

Kinesio taping effects on the electromyography activity: A controlled randomized and blinded clinical trial

Introduction: The Temporomandibular disfunction (TMD) is a composite of signs and symptoms manifested as a consequence of disorders in the stomatognathic system. Temporomandibular Joint Disorders can cause problems in the cervical and lumbar spine and vice versa. Objective: To identify the prevalence of TMD in people with pain in the spine. Method: It is an analytical quantitative transversal study. Study participants were 60 volunteers of both sexes, from four orthopedic physical therapy clinics, with patients being treated for painful conditions vertebral in Goiânia - GO. Questionnaire Anamnesic Fonseca (1994) was used to capture and interpret data as well as verification of temporomandibular dysfunction to characterize the severity of TMD symptoms. The software used for statistical analysis was the BioEstat 5.0. Results: Of the 60 subjects assessed, 70% had at least one diagnosis of dysfunction. Of these, 52.4% had mild TMD, 33.3% had moderate and 14.2% had severe. Of individuals diagnosed with TMD, 30 are female and 12 male. Conclusion: Although no significance found in the statistical tests, we can demonstrate the relevance percentage in degree of severity in various regions of the spine, highlighting the cervical region, where all patients with pain at this location had some degree of TMD, and low back pain as the symptom most found in research, whether present or not some degree of TMD.

The prevalence of temporomandibular dysfunction in patients with spine pain.

The human foot must have proper posture to prevent any tissue overloads. The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of Kinesio Taping on the plantar arches on normal and flat feet. A pilot study, with a sample number of 12 subjects was developed. That were considered individually by feet posture: normal feet and flat feet. An electric podobarometer and AutoCAD software were used to evaluate the arch index, before and 24 hours after the Kinesio Taping application. Data analyze was done with Shapiro-Wilk, T-student test, Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney. The measurements were considered significant when p < .05. The group with flat feet showed a reduction in the arch (p = .036) after Kinesio Taping, and the group with normal feet didn’t present any alterations (p = .9). The comparison between the two groups confirmed the initial difference of the height of the arch (p=0,01) and after the Kinesio Taping application, it was shown that the arch had changed (p = .01). The Kinesio Taping with low tension along the medial longitudinal arch was capable of modifying the arch in flat feet, but not in normal feet.
