The invention relates to a fire extinguisher with a gas turbine or a compressed air storage for creating a flow of air (L) or gas, into which water is introduced in the form of finely atomised droplets, resulting in a heavy fluid, which is substantially accelerated in an attached case (DO), by which high projectile ranges in a directed free jet are possible or the mixture of air or (inert) gas and water droplets can be transported over longer stretches in hoses or pipes. The seat of the fire is pinpointed in a mobile variant (with transportable gas turbine) by directional sweeping of the whole unit or by feeding the extinguishing substance via portable, flexible hoses. In a stationary plant (with gas turbine or accumulator) this occurs via fixed piping, terminating at those points most under threat.The high percentage of water in the mixture in the form of finely atomised droplets causes the required cooling and lowering of the flammability, while the air and gas portions of the extinguishing substance (LSTR) take on greater volume and simply supplant the combustible gases and vapours.Excessive water damage or damage to machine housings as a result of excessively rapid cooling (such as e.g. by a direct water jet) can be prevented.

An experimental research study involving an unconventional method of producing a stream of inert gases from common hydrocarbon fuel sources has been described. Design and processing science elements from several different scientific, engineering, and technical disciplines were a significant part of this interdisciplinary experimental research study. At the time of this study's completion, experimental results indicated that the described process and methods of operation were capable of producing good quality streams of inert gas mixtures at lower costs than the known cryogenic or membrane systems that are capable of producing inert Nitrogen gas streams from air.
