A review on influence of electrical process parameters in EDM process

The study investigated the separate and combined effects of ventilation rate, free convection flow produced by a thermal manikin, and the presence of objects on the distribution of tracer gas and particles in indoor air. The concentration of aerosol particles and tracer gas was measured in a test room with mixing ventilation. Three layouts were arranged: an empty room, an office room with an occupant sitting in front of a table, and a single-bed hospital room. The room occupant was simulated by a thermal manikin. Monodisperse particles of three sizes (0.07, 0.7, and 3.5 μm) and nitrous oxide tracer gas were generated simultaneously at the same location in the room. The particles and gas concentrations were measured in the bulk room air, in the breathing zone of the manikin, and in the exhaust air. Within the breathing zone of the sitting occupant, the tracer gas emerged as reliable predictor for the exposure to all different-sized test particles. A change in the ventilation rate did not affect the difference in concentration distribution between tracer gas and larger particle sizes. Increasing the room surface area did not influence the similarity in the dispersion of the aerosol particles and the tracer gas.

Turning by electrical discharge machining: A review

Within the Faculty of Machine Building from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania unconventional technologies researches were performed for 20 years. The team focused on national research projects referring to micro machining and special applications. EDM process (Electric Discharge Machining) has a great importance to the industry. Even if it never be able to compete with the metal cutting manufacturing process in terms of material removal rate, today it is the main manufacturing process of complex die and mould, due to the major advantages presented in this paper. Today, also the precision of the process competes with the milling process in terms of quality of the surface, which can arrive at values that, in some cases, are better than the values for grinded surfaces. The article presents the importance of the process in the industry of stamps, which can not be processed with other methods, due to special materials and forms that are wished to be obtained. The article presents comparatively the values of the roughness obtained by EDM process on different types of materials and by different process parameters. Concerning the optimisation of the EDM technological parameters, the research has been done on different types of EDM machines. The final scope is to elaborate a technological data base with the purpose of optimising the EDM process on different machines.

New technologies and applications of edm process

Hospital acquired illness or “nosocomial” illness is of increasing concern to public health administrators, hospitals, physicians and patients. Engineering infection control measures are used to reduce the concentration and prevent the spread of these particles throughout a building in order to decrease exposure to and risk of illness from infectious pathogens. The engineer who attempts to deal with microbial indoor air quality finds that pertinent microbiological information exists in abundance but not in easily digestible forms. This paper will provide a brief review of the problem of controlling airborne disease transmission in healthcare facilities with emphasis on medical microbiology and aerobiology in order to offer some conclusions regarding the potential for engineering control of infectious diseases.

Engineering Control of Airborne Disease Transmission in Health Care Facilities

The article presents the importance of the EDM technology in the industry of machine building. It is mostly used in the machining of stamps and special processes in which the conventional technologies are inefficiently. It's known that only condition of machining with this method is that the material should be electro conductive. The main parameters that are followed during the process are the precision and the roughness of the surface. The collective tried to emphasise the importance variation of the roughness concerning some machining parameters. Some of the measurements were conducted at ETH Zurich using an electronic microscope.

Surface quality of the edm processed materials

The paper presents the mechanical properties of materials which are already used or could be used in building structural elements of machine tools. The materials presented are metals, natural stone, ceramics, metal foams, fiber reinforced polymers, polymer concrete (mineral casting) and hybrid structures. The most common characteristics of structural elements are detailed and categorized. A methodology for choosing the optimum material is detailed at the end of the paper and a performance metric shows graphically why mineral casting is better suited for milling machines and lathes than cast iron with lamellar graphite. Mechanical properties of the structural elements of machine-tools

The goal of this paper is to determine the optimal cutting edge microgeometry for a carbide end mill used in stainless steel machining. The optimal cutting edge microgeometry will be determined through conducting more tool life tests. Tools with three different cutting edge radiuses and one without edge preparation will be tested in order to determine the influence of the cutting edge microgeometry on the wear and tool life. The edge microgeometry is obtained through wet blasting preparation.
