O Planalto Catarinense constitui-se em uma importante regiao estrategica para estudos referentes a conservacao, em funcao da ocorrencia de remanescentes de Floresta Ombrofila Mista e por ser uma area de recarga e afloramento do aquifero Guarani. Com o objetivo de avaliar a similaridade floristica entre diferentes areas amostrais e descrever a estrutura do componente arboreo, foram alocadas, no Parque Natural Municipal de Lages, SC, quatro parcelas permanentes (40 x 40m) e cada uma foi dividida em 16 unidades amostrais de 10 x 10m. Arvores com DAP ≥ 5cm foram mapeadas, marcadas e mensuradas. Os especimes foram coletados, identificados e depositados em herbario. Foram amostradas 46 especies distribuidas em 39 generos e 27 familias. As familias mais ricas em especies foram Myrtaceae, Lauraceae, Salicaceae e Sapindaceae as quais apresentaram alta densidade, assim como Dicksoniaceae e Clethraceae. Sete especies somaram mais de 60% do total de individuos amostrados. A diversidade especifica (H’) foi de 3,05 nats.ind-1 (J’= 0,81). A similaridade entre as parcelas foi de 32 a 44%, indicando baixa semelhanca entre as parcelas estudadas. A distribuicao espacial da maioria das especies e classificada como agregada, conforme o indice de Morisita. Esta floresta e considerada rica e diversa, com especies arboreas ameacadas de extincao tais como Araucaria angustifolia e Dicksonia sellowiana. Devido a grande importância ecologica para a flora e fauna local e o processo de fragmentacao na regiao, este remanescente florestal deve ser protegido e conservado, visto que ainda ocorrem interferencias antropicas negativas.

The Y Ikatu Xingu Campaign brought together indigenous people, farmers, researchers, governmental, and non-governmental organizations seeking riparian forest restoration in the Xingu watershed, in west-central Brazil. Forest restoration is challenging in the region because of scarce nurseries, long distances, and high costs associated with the usual technique of planting nursery-raised seedlings. This article describes mechanized direct seeding and compares it with the planting of seedlings, in terms of cost and tree densities at ages of 0.5 until 5.5 yr after planting. Direct-seeding was mechanized using common agricultural machines designed for sowing cereals or grasses, which were loaded with 200,000 seeds of native trees and 150,000 seeds of annual and sub-perennial legumes, plus 50–150 kg sand ha−1. Environmental heterogeneity and natural regeneration in riparian vegetation of the brazilian semi-arid region

(Natural regeneration in a remainder of Araucaria Forest, in the Sao Francisco de Paula, National Forest, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil). The forest ecosystems of the South of Brazil, especially the Araucaria Forest, were intensively explored, leaving for the present days just a few remainders of the State’s original forests. However, the Araucaria Forest still lacks research and the existent studies of natural regeneration are insufficient and they don’t to arrive to necessary conclusions about the dispersion processes, colonization and the other succession stages which characterize the development of that ecosystem. The objective of this work was to evaluate the natural regeneration of the arboreal species in the categories seedling and juvenile, comparing with the adult categoriy. The work was performed in the Sao Francisco de Paula National Forest in an Araucaria Forest which suffered selective cutting of trees in the past. The juvenile category was sampled in 25 sub-parts of 10 x 5m and the seedling category in sub-parts of 5 x 5 m. The individuals with up to 20cm height were classified as seedling, the individuals with height between 21 and 200 cm were considered as juvenile. A total of 44 species were identified, belonging to 37 genus and 23 families, considering the three categories together (seedling, juvenile and adult). In this group, one species was found exclusively in the seedling category, five were present only in the juvenile category, seven in both seedling and juvenile categories, nine in the juvenile and adult categories, seven exclusively in the adult category and fifteen species were present in all three categories. The araucaria presented reduced number of individuals in all of the categories and a low index of total natural regeneration.

Analisou-se a dinâmica da estrutura da vegetacao do sub-bosque de uma floresta de terra firme sob a influencia de clareiras durante 12 anos apos a exploracao florestal de impacto reduzido no municipio de Moju, Para, na Amazonia Oriental, Brasil. Angiospermas de 10 cm de altura a 5 cm de DAP foram inventariadas em 468 m² de amostras, em seis ocasioes (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007 e 2010), analisadas de acordo com as formas de vida (arvores, arbustos, lianas, ervas e palmeiras), considerando a abundância, a frequencia, as categorias de tamanho (CT1 = 10 cm ≤ HT < 50 cm; CT2 = 50 cm ≤ HT ≤130 cm; CT3m = 130 cm < HT e DAP < 2 cm; e CT4 = 2 cm ≤ DAP < 5 cm) e a regeneracao natural relativa. As familias mais representativas foram Burseraceae, Marantaceae, Violaceae e Lecythidaceae em todas as ocasioes, enquanto as especies mais importantes foram Monotagma sp1., Monotagma sp2., Rinorea guianensis,Lecythis idatimon e Protium pilosum. As formas de vida mais representativas foram, em ordem decrescente, arvores, ervas e lianas em todas as ocasioes. A dinâmica das diferentes formas de vida foi dependente da intensidade de luz. As clareiras possibilitaram o estabelecimento de regeneracao de especies comerciais e potencialmente comerciais, indicando que essas especies nao necessitam de conducao para garantir o estoque para futuros cortes.

It aimed to assess the floristic composition, natural regeneration and the spatial distribution of the main woody species in the undergrowth. The species were Cariniana estrellensis (Raddi) O. Kuntze, Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J. F.Macbr., Copaifera langsdorffii Desf., Anadenanthera macrocarpa (Benth.) Brenan, Virola sebifera Aubl., Hymenaea courbaril var. stilbocarpa (Hayne) Lee & Lang. , Aspidosperma discolor A. St. Hil., Astronium fraxinifolium Schott and Schefflera morototoni B. Maguire, Stey. & Frodin, all considered priorities for in situ conservation. Five transects were used, each 10 meters wide, laid perpendicular to the main watercourse in the studied area. A total of 21,482 regenerants per hectare were found in 69 species, 53 genera and 39 families. The families which had the largest numbers of species as seedlings were, in descending order, Leguminosae (Fabaceae), Rubiaceae, Sapindaceae and Meliaceae. A mixture quotient of 1:3 was calculated and indicates a forest rich in species, when compared to other similar forest formations. The spatial distribution of the regenerant species showed different patterns.
