TL;DR: The Ligurian Sea is a deep basin in the northernmost sector of the western Mediterranean which shows peculiar hydrodynamic and meteo-oceanographic features.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal and spatial variability of water quality parameters in the Port of Genoa, Italy, from 2000 to 2007
TL;DR: The results of the statistical analysis of a set of physico-chemical and biological water quality parameters collected from 2000 to 2007 in the Genoa Harbour area (Ligurian Sea) show a general improvement of water quality over the 8-years period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correction to: Microplastics in seawater: sampling strategies, laboratory methodologies, and identification techniques applied to port environment.
Laura Cutroneo,Anna Reboa,Giovanni Besio,Franco Borgogno,Laura Canesi,Susanna Canuto,Manuela Dara,Francesco Enrile,Iskender Forioso,Giuseppe Greco,Véronique Lenoble,Arianna Malatesta,Stéphane Mounier,Mario Petrillo,Ruben Rovetta,Alessandro Stocchino,Javier Tesan,Greta Vagge,Marco Capello +18 more
TL;DR: The article Microplastics in seawater: sampling strategies, laboratory methodologies, and identification techniques applied to port environment suggests that seawater microplastics are likely to be small in comparison with other marine environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Considerations on salts used for density separation in the extraction of microplastics from sediments
TL;DR: In this paper, the use of a method for extracting microplastics from marine sediments based on density separation has been considered, and the most commonly used salts are NaCl (45.6%), ZnCl2 (19.3%), NaI (17.5%), and NaCl(17.1%).

Particulate matter and plankton dynamics in the Ross Sea Polynya of Terra Nova Bay during the Austral Summer 1997/98
S. Fonda Umani,A. Accornero,Giorgio Budillon,Marco Capello,Sergio Tucci,Marina Cabrini,P. Del Negro,M. Monti,C. De Vittor +8 more
TL;DR: The structure and variability of the plankton community and the distribution and composition of suspended particulate matter, were investigated in the polynya of Terra Nova Bay (western Ross Sea) during the austral summer 1997/1998, with the ultimate objective of understanding the trophic control of carbon export from the upper water column as discussed by the authors.
