Said polymers contain at least aluminum in the form of particles to improve their heat insulating properties. The styrol polymer particles exhibit a fine cellular structure after expansion. The aluminum particles are homogeneously distributed and incorporated as infrared ray reflecting material. The main part of said aluminum particles have a laminar shape, the size of which ranges from 1 to 15 νm. The styrol polymer particles produced as described above can be foamed to form polystyrol particle foamed materials having a maximum density of 30 g/l and improved heat insulating properties.
