The main purpose of this study was to determine the changes on health-related fitness female students University of Osijek under the influence of experimental theoretical physical education (PE) program. The secondary aim of this study is to determine influence of experimental program on intrinsic motivation, physical activity, body image satisfaction and readiness to change behavior in regular exercise.Knowledge and application of theoretical knowledge about possible changes of anthropological characteristics, proper exercise and the importance of healthy nutrition in the subject of PE has always kept very important place among other tasks in this area. The main premise of this paper is that theoretical education in PE will have a higher impact on students more active lifestyles, recreational sports activities participation, good eating habits and positive body image essential for lifelong participation in physical activity than usual standard classes.The program run during two semesters of first year students of the Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physic (N=84) who were divided into experimentally and control group. In order to realize the goals, two different programs of physical education were conducted for a period of one academic year. Regarding the structure, experimental program was conducted on the same principles as in the control group. The only difference between the groups was that instead of the 90 minutes of standard lessons in the control group, the experimental group held every second class theoretical lecture for 30 minutes on a particular topic.All measures were tested two times, and the effects between groups determined at the end of second semester. Health-related fitness was assessed using a tests for the muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, cardio-respiratory endurance and anthropometric characteristics. Other questionnaires were used: Intrinsic motivation inventory, Stunkard 's Figure Rating Scale, Croatian short version of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Transtheoretical model - scale to measure readiness behavioral changes in physical exercise.The results showed that two different PE programmes cause various changes, but statistically significant difference was found in a small number of variables. After the completion of the experimental program have been reported similar improvements in health related fitness, intrinsic motivation, satisfaction with body appearance, and readiness behavioral changes in physical exercise. experimental group showed statistically significant improvement compared to the control in some variables of health related fitness such as muscular and cardio-respiratory endurance, while the control group showed significantly greater improvement in physical activity of daily walking.Period of late adolescence, as the final stage of the Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia, open many possibilities for intervention to change the undesirable health behavior. Therefore, different interventions are necessary in order to increase student physical activity, regular exercise and reduce sedentary behavior.

Promjene zdravstvenog fitnesa studentica Sveučilišta u Osijeku pod utjecajem eksperimentalnog programa teorijske nastave tjelesne i zdravstvene kulture

Introduction: Despite the well-known health, psychological, social and economic benefits of physical activity (PA), physical inactivity is a growing public health problem worldwide. Apart from the above mentioned benefits of regular physical activity, meeting the recommended levels of physical activity can contribute to a better self-esteem and body image satisfaction.The aim of this study was to determine the level of university students physical activity and to explore relations between physical activity, self-perceived health status, self-esteem and body image satisfaction.
Methods: Survey data collection was conducted on a sample of 312 female students from the University of Zadar. Physical activity level was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ)- long form, self-perceived health status was assessed using the Medical Outcomes Study Short Forms (SF-36) questionnaire, self-esteem was assessed using the Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES), and body image satisfaction was assessed using the Stunkard's figure rating scale (SFRS). In addition, students level of nutrition was estimated by body mass index (BMI), smoking status was rated by asking questions about the smoking habits.
Results: Total score of physical activity level was calculated by summing the activity in four domains: work-related PA, transport-related PA, domestic PA and leisure-time PA. The students median total PA was 64.75 MET- hour / week, and the highest energy consumption was achieved in the domestic PA domain (16.17 MET- hour/week) and walking (26.67 MET- hour/week). The proportion of physically inactive female students from Zadar was 38.46%. Students with healthy body mass index, and obuse students were more likely to be physically active in their free time, than those underweight and overweight. Also, non-smokers were more active in their spare time compared to smokers. Mann Whitney U test was used to evaluate the differences between students who reach the recommended physical activity level and those who do not rech that level. Adequate physicaly active students felt less physical pain than low active. The Spearmans rank correlations indicate that the level of PA is associated with some subjective indicators of health. The largest positive correlation was obtained for the total PA and mental health, while the PA at work and domestic PA were negatively associated with some components of health. Better student's mental health and vitality contributes to higher PA in leisure-time. Student's self-esteem and body image satisfaction do not differ whether they meet current PA guidelenes for health or not. Furthermore, the student's PA correlated with self-esteem and body image satisfaction. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that students' PA may contribute to the explanation of their self-esteem.
Conclusion: The transition from adolescence into young adulthood represents a unique developmental period that can have a significant effect on the adaptation and maintenance of health behaviors such as reaching recommanded levels of physical activity. The evidence on the positive relationship of PA with health indicators, self-esteem and body image satisfaction can potentially be used to support evidence-based promotion of PA in a university setting, and as a hypothesis for future longitudinal studies on such potential causal relationships. To get a more comprehensive insight in that relationship, future studies should not only analyze total PA levels but also domain-specific PA levels. Interventions aiming to increase students' PA, should particulary target those who smoke or are overweighted.

Povezanost tjelesne aktivnosti studentica, samoprocjene zdravlja i zadovoljstva tjelesnim izgledom

The aim of the research was to determine the influence of an extracurricular sports program on motor abilities and physical literacy of preschool children aged from 4 to 6 years. For this purpose, the battery of six motor tests of known metric characteristics was used to measure the following motor abilities: coordination, strength, flexibility and balance. The data were calculated by descriptive statistics. The differences in motor abilities between two time points (initial and final), as well as the interactional effect of a single variable on the global results of motor abilities in repeated measurement with regard to the point of measurement and gender, were calculated by multivariate analysis of variance. The obtained results have confirmed the previous findings describing the benefits of continuous physical activity for the development of preschool children motor abilities and physical literacy. The results are also consistent with the previous research showing that boys have better achievements in explosive strength and coordination, whereas girls have better achievements in dynamic strength, flexibility and balance.

Extracurricular sports activities in preschool children: impact on motor achievements and physical literacy

Introduction. The aim of this study was to investigate the sexual behavior, attitudes and knowledge on contraception, sexually transmitted infections and reproductive health among the youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Material and Methods. A prospective study included a sample of 6.000 subjects, aged 19 - 24, of both sexes, investigating the sexual behavior of the youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period 2007 - 2009. Results. Of the interviewed examinees, 61% were sexually active, of which 56.4% had sexual intercourse with one partner (z = 28.51; p < 0.001). The average age of sexarche was significantly lower in males 17.34 ± 1.77 years, than in females 18.20 ± 1.84 years (z = -14.44; p < 0.001). Contraception was used by 67.6% at first intercourse, and by 70.4% at the last intercourse. The most common method of contraception was male condom (74%), coitus interruptus (11.1%), and oral hormonal contraceptives (14.9%). The examined subjects had inadequate knowledge (51.6%) about contraceptive methods, and it was significantly higher in males (64.6%) than in females (42.2%) (z = 10.17; p < 0.001). Some 4.9% of the sexually active females had intentional abortions. Up to 51.7% of females had never had a pelvic examination, and Pap test was done by 37.2%. The examinees obtained information about contraception and sexually transmitted infections from peers 50.7% and parents 9.7%. Only 28% of females had a positive attitude towards oral hormonal contraceptives. Conclusion. The interviewed young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina keep traditional sexual behavior patterns, attitudes and practices. However, more effort should be put into the improvement of knowledge on contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and healthcare protection.

Rano otkrivanje sindroma policističnih jajnika u djevojčica i adolescentica

Akademske godine 2003./04. zapocelo je radom u Službi za skolsku i sveucilisnu medicinu Savjetovaliste za mlade, u kojem sudjeluju strucnjaci razlicitih struka. Svrha djelovanja Savjetovalista je pružanje pomoci i podrske ucenicima i studentima u rjesavanje problema i poteskoca nastalih tijekom psihofizickog rasta i razvoja i skolovanja, koje otežavaju funkcioniranje u obitelji, skoli i zajednici. Sve aktivnosti Savjetovalista imaju za cilj ocuvanje i promicanje zdravlja te otkrivanje i pomoc djeci s rizicnim ponasanjem. U radu Savjetovalista sudjeluju dva skolska lijecnika, ginekolog psiholog, a po potrebi psihijatar te druge službe Zavoda (mikrobioloski laboratorij...). U pocetku rada za probir studenata služili su sistematski pregledi. Studenti sada dolaze samostalno, ali i na poziv roditelja, fakulteta ili obiteljskog lijecnika. Rad se sastoji od pojedinacnih, u paru ili grupnih savjetovanja i to jednokratno ili visekratno, te tematskih radionica, predavanja i tribina. Koriste se principi i metode savjetovalisnog rada i bihevioralno kognitivne terapije.Rad Savjetovalista financiraju Ured za zdarvstvo i socijalnu skrb grada Zagreba i Hrvatski zavod za zdravstveno osiguranje.
