GlosariumBITRI: Interdisciplinary elucidation of concepts, metaphors, theories and problems concerning INFORMATION

In the last decade different software solutions have appeared in order to facilitate content management. These solutions make the life cycle of digital contents more comfortable and flexible so that it is possible to improve and to automate processes and make both more effective and efficient the communication via Internet. Nevertheless, there is a lack of a single standard that integrates all these products and applications. In this chapter we present a state-of-art of the different types of existing products, including Content management (CM), Web content management (WCM), Record management (RM), Document management (DM), Digital asset management (DAM), Enterprise content management (ECM) and Learning content management (LCM), and their characteristics are defined. We will also approach the different research lines associated with these solutions, showing a special attention to the application of these solutions in the knowledge management and e-leaning fields.

This paper presents research in progress which aims to determine the impact of user training in the information literacy level of users of the Capes Portal of E-Journals. The paper starts with an overview of the Capes Portal, the largest digital library of scientific journals of Brazil, its history, evolution and of the technological alternatives for information retrieval on the web. Next, the paper presents a theoretical framework about information searching, construction of search strategies and information literacy. The research will use a qualitative approach. Data collected through observations and interviews will be categorized and interpreted using as basis the second standard of ACRL - Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.

El lenguaje de la interrogación: una gramática formal para la recuperación de la información.

The study of the Organization and Representation of Knowledge demands both an interdisciplinary approach and a conceptual clarification. A possible response to this double demand is found in the epistemic proposal offered by Fred Dretske Stanford University (California, USA). An analysis of Dretske's definition of information forces us to accept, however, very different conclusions. More concretely, the Dretskean analysis of information faces certain problems when dealing with two possible varieties of informational content carried by a signal. The introduction of parameter k in Dretske's definition is problematic as well. Further problems derive from the fact that Dretske's definition violates a realist conception. Finally, some counterintuitive consequences follow from his semantic analysis; in particular, from the identification the author establishes between nomic regularities and the necessary and sufficient conditions of the flow of information.

La información como fundamento cognitivo de una definición adecuada al conocimiento

Las Ciencias de la Documentacion se caracterizan por fundamentarse conceptualmente sobre una discriminacion basica: la distincion entre los conceptos de dato, informacion, conocimiento y documento. Esta distincion, aun siendo critica, arrastra una mas que profunda confusion conceptual que evita que se pueda realizar un aprovechamiento adecuado (no solo de tipo conceptual, sino tambien de tipo pragmatico) de la misma dentro de esas disciplinas. En este trabajo presentamos algunas aclaraciones relacionadas con esa distincion. En primer lugar, defendemos un analisis que permite establecer una clara diferenciacion entre los conceptos de dato, informacion y conocimiento. Finalmente, en segundo lugar, mostraremos cual es el papel articulador del concepto de documento frente a esa distincion anteriormente defendida.
