Portable electronic devices are provided with wireless circuitry that includes antennas and antenna isolation elements. The antennas may include antennas that have multiple arms and that are configured to handle communications in multiple frequency bands. The antennas may also include one or more antennas that are configured to handle communications in a single frequency band. The antennas may be coupled to different radio-frequency transceivers. For example, there may be first, second, and third antennas and first and second transceivers. The first and third antennas may be coupled to the first transceiver and the second antenna may be coupled to the second transceiver. The antenna isolation elements may be interposed between the antennas and may serve to reduce radio-frequency interference between the antennas. There may be a first antenna isolation element between the first and second antennas and a second antenna isolation element between the second and third antennas.

Antenna isolation for portable electronic devices

A modular wideband antenna element for connection to a feed network. There is a ground plane, and first and second flared fins above the ground plane. The fins each define a connection location that is relatively close to the ground plane and tapering to a free end located farther from the ground plane. The connection location of the first fin is electrically coupled to the feed network and the connection location of the second fin is electrically coupled to the ground plane. There are one or more additional first traces electrically connecting the first fin to the ground plane and one or more additional second traces electrically connecting the second fin to the ground plane.

Modular wideband antenna array

According to one embodiment, an antenna device according to this embodiment includes first and second feed terminals (5A)(5B). The distance between the first and second feed terminals (5A)(5B) is set to a distance less than or equal to almost one quarter a wavelength corresponding to a predetermined resonant frequency. A first end of the first antenna (6A) including a first band, as a communication band, including the resonant frequency is connected to the first feed terminal (5A). A first end of the second antenna (6B) including a second band, as a communication band, including at least the resonant frequency of the first antenna (6A) is connected to the second feed terminal (5B). A first protruding portion is provided between the first and second antennas (6A)(6B) so as to protrude from a ground pattern (1b) of an antenna board (1).

According to one embodiment, a first antenna element is formed from a folded monopole element having one end connected to a feeding terminal, and the other end connected to a first ground terminal, with a stub being provided between a forward portion and a backward portion formed by folding a middle portion. A second antenna element is formed from a monopole element having one end connected to the feeding terminal directly or indirectly through part of the first antenna element. A third antenna element is formed from a parasitic element having one end connected to a second ground terminal provided at a position opposite to the first ground terminal through the feeding terminal, and the other end open, with at least part of the parasitic element being placed parallel to the second antenna element so as to be configured to be capacitively coupled to the second antenna element.
