Muscle Injuries: Biology and Treatment
TL;DR: The authors have summarized the prevailing understanding on the biology of muscle regeneration and reviewed the existing data on the different treatment modalities thought to influence the healing of injured skeletal muscle to propose an evidence-based approach for the diagnosis and optimal treatment of skeletal muscle injuries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of a beta 2-agonist, terbutaline, with an inhaled corticosteroid, budesonide, in newly detected asthma.
Tari Haahtela,Markku Järvinen,Tuomo Kava,Kirsti Kiviranta,Sirkka Koskinen,Kaarina Lehtonen,Kurt Nikander,Tore Persson,Kaija Reinikainen,Olof Selroos,Anssi Sovijärvi,Brita Stenius-Aarniala,Thore Svahn,Ritva Tammivaara,Lauri A. Laitinen +14 more
TL;DR: Antiinflammatory therapy with inhaled budesonide is an effective first-line treatment for patients with newly detected, mild asthma, and it is superior to the use of terbutaline in such patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of reducing or discontinuing inhaled budesonide in patients with mild asthma.
Tari Haahtela,Markku Järvinen,Tuomo Kava,Kirsti Kiviranta,S Koskinen,Kaarina Lehtonen,Kurt Nikander,Tore Persson,Olof Selroos,Anssi Sovijärvi +9 more
TL;DR: Treatment with the reduced dose of budesonide was sufficiently effective in 74 percent of the patients to maintain bronchial responsiveness at a level similar to that achieved with the higher dose, and differences in pulmonary function between the steroid and placebo groups were significant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fall-induced injuries and deaths among older adults.
Pekka Kannus,Jari Parkkari,Seppo Koskinen,Seppo Niemi,Mika Palvanen,Markku Järvinen,Ilkka Vuori +6 more
TL;DR: The number of older persons with fall-induced injuries is increasing at a rate that cannot be explained simply by demographic changes and preventive measures should be adopted to control the increasing burden of these injuries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevention of hip fracture in elderly people with use of a hip protector.
Pekka Kannus,Jari Parkkari,Seppo Niemi,Matti Pasanen,Mika Palvanen,Markku Järvinen,Ilkka Vuori +6 more
TL;DR: The risk of hip fracture can be reduced in frail elderly adults by the use of an anatomically designed external hip protector.
