Journal ArticleDOI
Localization by X-ray microanalysis of soluble ions, particularly potassium and sodium, in fungal hyphae
TL;DR: The study has shown that the apex of the hypha of D. salina is less able to select for potassium against sodium than the remainder of the Hypha, and the 1- to 50- μ m region behind the apex is the most selective forassium against sodium.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histochemical study of the hyphae and the distribution of adenosine triphosphatase in Dendryphiella salina
Mary F.J. Galpin,D.H. Jennings +1 more
TL;DR: Histochemical assays were carried out on mycelium of Dendryphiella salina cultured in media containing either potassium chloride or sea water, finding that adenosine triphosphatase showed enhanced activity and potassium or sodium ions were added to the assays of material from the potassium chloride cultures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyphal branching in Dendryphiella salina: Effect of various compounds and the further elucidation of the effect of sorbose and the role of cyclic AMP
TL;DR: L -Sorbose and 3- O -methyl glucose reduce colony diameter and increase the amount of hyphal branching in Dendryphiella salina but have only a small effect on dry weight produced in shake culture.
Journal ArticleDOI
A plasma-membrane ATPase from Dendryphiella salina: Cation specificity and interaction with fusicoccin and cyclic AMP
Mary F.J. Galpin,D.H. Jennings +1 more
TL;DR: A membrane-bound ATPase has been isolated from the marine hyphomycete Dendryphiella salina free of contamination from mitochondria or mitochondrial fragments, and the results are discussed in relation to the functioning of the enzyme in the intact hypha.
