Around the waypoint-based path-following control for marine ships, a novel dynamic virtual ship (DVS) guidance principle is developed to implement the assumption "the reference path is generated using a virtual ship", which is critical for applying the current theoretical studies in practice. Taking two steerable variables as control inputs, the robust adaptive scheme is proposed by virtue of the robust neural damping and dynamic surface control (DSC) techniques. The derived controller is with the advantages of concise structure and being easy-to-implement for its burdensome superiority. Furthermore, the low frequency learning method improves the applicability of the algorithm. Finally, the comparison experiments with the line-of-sight (LOS) based fuzzy scheme are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

A novel DVS guidance principle and robust adaptive path-following control for underactuated ships using low frequency gain-learning.

The cruise control problem of high speed trains in the presence of unknown parameters and external disturbances is considered. In particular a Lyapunov-based robust adaptive controller is presented to achieve asymptotic tracking and disturbance rejection. The system under consideration is nonlinear, MIMO and non-minimum phase. To deal with the limitations arising from the unstable zero-dynamics we do an output redefinition such that the zero-dynamics with respect to new outputs becomes stable. Rigorous stability analyses are presented which establish the boundedness of all the internal states and simultaneously asymptotic stability of the tracking error dynamics. The results are presented for two common configurations of high speed trains, i.e. the DD and PPD designs, based on the multi-body model and are verified by several numerical simulations.

Robust adaptive cruise control of high speed trains

A sliding mode based finite-time control scheme is presented to address the problem of attitude stabilization for rigid spacecraft in the presence of actuator fault and external disturbances. More specifically, a nonlinear observer is first proposed to reconstruct the amplitude of actuator faults and external disturbances. It is proved that precise reconstruction with zero observer error is achieved in finite time. Then, together with the system states, the reconstructed information is used to synthesize a nonsingular terminal sliding mode attitude controller. The attitude and the angular velocity are asymptotically governed to zero with finite-time convergence. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Finite-time fault tolerant attitude stabilization control for rigid spacecraft.

This paper precedes chaos control of fractional-order chaotic systems in presence of uncertainty and external disturbances. Based on some basic properties on fractional calculus and the stability theorems, we present a hybrid adaptive intelligent backstepping-sliding mode controller (FAIBSMC) for the finite-time control of such systems. The FAIBSMC is proposed based on the concept of active control technique. The asymptotic stability of the controller is shown based on Lyapunov theorem and the finite time reaching to the sliding surfaces is also proved. Illustrative and comparative examples and simulation results are given to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed procedure, which consent well with the analytical results.

Design of an adaptive chattering avoidance global sliding mode tracker for uncertain non-linear time-varying systems

This paper proposes novel adaptive fuzzy wavelet neural sliding mode controller (AFWN-SMC) for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. The main contribution of this paper is to design smooth sliding mode control (SMC) for a class of high-order nonlinear systems while the structure of the system is unknown and no prior knowledge about uncertainty is available. The proposed scheme composed of an Adaptive Fuzzy Wavelet Neural Controller (AFWNC) to construct equivalent control term and an Adaptive Proportional-Integral (A-PI) controller for implementing switching term to provide smooth control input. Asymptotical stability of the closed loop system is guaranteed, using the Lyapunov direct method. To show the efficiency of the proposed scheme, some numerical examples are provided. To validate the results obtained by proposed approach, some other methods are adopted from the literature and applied for comparison. Simulation results show superiority and capability of the proposed controller to improve the steady state performance and transient response specifications by using less numbers of fuzzy rules and on-line adaptive parameters in comparison to other methods. Furthermore, control effort has considerably decreased and chattering phenomenon has been completely removed.
