Encoded combinatorial chemistry is provided, where sequential synthetic schemes are recorded using organic molecules, which define choice of reactant, and stage, as the same or different bit of information. Various products can be produced in the multi-stage synthesis, such as oligomers and synthetic non-repetitive organic molecules. Conveniently, nested families of compounds can be employed as identifiers, where number and/or position of a substituent define the choice. Alternatively, detectable functionalities may be employed, such as radioisotopes, fluorescers, halogens, and the like, where presence and ratios of two different groups can be used to define stage or choice. Particularly, pluralities of identifiers may be used to provide a binary or higher code, so as to define a plurality of choices with only a few detachable tags. The particles may be screened for a characteristic of interest, particularly binding affinity, where the products may be detached from the particle or retained on the particle. The reaction history of the particles which are positive for the characteristic can be determined by the release of the tags and analysis to define the reaction history of the particle.

The present invention provides a process for producing a multilayer molded article which includes supplying at least one piece of a skin material having a desired shape and a resin melt between unclosed upper and lower molds and closing the molds to form a multilayer molded article including the thermoplastic resin and the skin material which covers only a desired part of the article, wherein the resin melt is supplied at or near a center area of a rear face of the skin material, or wherein after the skin material is lifted to a position at which the skin material contacts a cavity surface of the upper mold by a vertically movable rod or bar which is positioned at a part of the lower mold on which the skin material is placed, the resin melt is supplied between the upper and lower molds and the rod or bar is returned to a determined position at least before the molding is completed. This process economically produces a multilayer molded article in which the skin material covers the desired part of the article without displacement and which has a good feeling.

A method for producing a multilayer molded article in which an skin material having nap on the outer surface thereof is integrally molded with a substrate of a synthetic resin, using a mold comprising a pair of male and female mold halves. In this method, after the fabric skin material and the molten resin are clamped in the mold and primary cooling is carried out, the mold is opened halfway to form a predetermined gap between the mold halves, and the molten synthetic resin undergoes secondary cooling and hardens while the mold is held in the half-open state. In the present invention, the time period for the operation to open the mold halfway is set at one second or less. By limiting the half-opening operation time period to the short period of one second or less, recovery of the nap is reliably achieved without the nap tending to stay flattened. Moreover, because the transition from the primary cooling step to the secondary cooling step occurs in a short period of time, problems such as inadequate cooling of the molten synthetic resin do not occur.

The present invention provides a multi-layer molded article which is made of a polypropylene resin body and a skin material lined with a foamed layer. The article has a good appearance and is produced using upper and lower molds which have a cavity therebetween. A specific cavity clearance is freely set between the molds, a skin material lined with a foamed layer is placed between the upper and lower molds, and a molten polypropylene resin containing a chemical blowing agent is supplied through a resin melt conduit into the lower mold when the cavity clearance (t) is between (C + 15) mm and (C + 50) mm where "C" is a thickness of the skin material lined with the foamed layer, lowering the upper mold at a specific rate and pressing the molten resin at specific pressure to fill the cavity with the molten resin to complete molding of a body of the resin, pressing the body for a certain time after completing molding to form a skin layer, lifting up the upper mold to decrease compression pressure of the skin material lined with the foamed layer to a pressure lower than a blowing pressure of the polypropylene resin to form and solidify a foamed body, and again lowering the upper mold to apply a certain pressure on a molded article and cooling the article in the molds.
