The present invention provides software for electronically annotating electronic images, such as drawings, photographs, video, etc., through the drag-and-drop of annotations from a pre-defined, but extendable, list. The annotations are placed at a user-selected X, Y location on the image, and stored in a searchable database. Thus, they can be searched in order to retrieve, organize, group, or display desired electronic images or collections of such images. The annotations may be text, images, sounds, etc. The invention provides a flexible, easy to learn, rapid, low error rate and satisfying interface for accomplishing such tasks.

As a result of this, a shading correction is effected on both images. The first image and the second image that have been subjected to the shading correction are taken into respective image memories, and after being subjected to a positioning process by a general controller, they are synthesized to generate a synthesized image.

An image recording device uses a first recording medium which stores image data photographed by an image photographing apparatus such as a digital camera, and uses a second recording medium which has a larger available storage capacity than the first recording medium. When the image data stored in the first recording medium is transferred into the second recording medium, history data corresponding to the image data to be transferred, is also transferred together. The history data is used for retrieval of the image data. Thus, the image recording device makes it possible to perform later image retrieval operations easily and conveniently. If available storage capacity of the first recording medium is not enough to record data from the second recording medium, the image recording device displays a message for indicating it. This system allows effective use of memory capacity.

A digital camera includes a liquid crystal display (LCD) and an electronic viewfinder (EVF) both capable of displaying a captured image. The EVF displays a captured image, and the LCD produces a camera status display about settings in a recording mode. A user can use a crossed switch to change the setting of each selectable item in the camera status display. This allows the user to change the settings on the LCD while viewing the captured image on the EVF. Consequently, the plurality of monitors capable of displaying images are put to effective use.
