A modified block copolymer composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer and a modified block copolymer consisting essentially of a base block copolymer of a monovinyl substituted aromatic hydrocarbon polymer block and an olefin compound polymer block having an ethylenic unsaturation degree not exceeding 20%, the base block copolymer having a molecular unit containing a carboxylic acid group and/or a group derived therefrom grafted thereto. The modified block copolymer composition of the present invention is a resinous composition excellent in impact resistance, adhesion, paint adhesion, weatherability, resistance to thermal deterioration, transparency and gloss or a rubbery or leather-like composition excellent in heat resistance, adrasion resistance, compression set resistance, adhesion, transparency, oil resistance, weatherability and resistance to heat aging.

A synergistic flame retardant combination includes (a) a phosphorus salt having the formula (I) wherein Md+ is a metal ion or an onium ion; d is 1, 2, 3, or 4 according to the identity of M and its oxidation state; each occurrence of R1 and R2 is independently C1-C18 hydrocarbyl; and each occurrence of m and n is independently 0 or 1; and (b) a phosphine compound selected from trihydrocarbylphosphines, trihydrocarbylphosphine oxides, and combinations thereof. A film and a laminate using the film as a substrate which both are suitable for heat sealing and a process for heat sealing the film and the laminate are disclosed. The film comprises a blend of (I) at least one member selected from the group consisting of (A) elastomeric block copolymers of vinyl-aromatic compounds with conjugated diene compounds, (B) resinous block copolymers of vinyl-aromatic compounds with conjugated diene compounds and (C) vinyl-aromatic resins and/or modified vinyl-aromatic resins, and (II) an olefinic polymer.

Polymer blend of diene/vinyl aromatic block copolymer and styrene/acrylate copolymer

Disclosed is a syndiotactic, polystyrenic resin composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of a component composed of (a) from 10 to 98 % by weight of a styrene-based polymer having a syndiotactic configuration and (b) from 2 to 90 % by weight of a polyolefin, (B) from 0.5 to 50 parts by weight of a styrene-olefin copolymer having a styrene content of from 40 to 85 % by weight, and optionally (C) from 0.5 to 10.0 parts by weight, relative to 100 parts by weight of the component (a) of (A), of a polyphenylene ether (having an intrinsic viscosity in chloroform at 25°C of 0.4 dl/g or higher) and/or (D) from 0 to 200 parts by weight, relative to 100 parts by weight of the component (b) of (A), of a styrene-olefin copolymer having a styrene content of from 5 to 35 % by weight and/or (E) from 0 to 200 parts by weight, relative to 100 parts by weight of the component (b) of (A), of at least one selected from paraffinic oils, paraffinic waxes, mineral oils and siloxanic oils. The composition may optionally contain (F) from 0.5 to 350 parts by weight, relative to 100 parts by weight of the resin components, of an inorganic filler and (G) from 0.1 to 10 parts by weight, relative to the same, of a polymer which is miscible with or has an affinity for the component (a) of (A) and which has a polar group. The composition can be formed into articles having good heat resistance, a high modulus of elasticity and good toughness. In addition, the articles are advantageous in that their surface layers are hardly peeled.

Styrene-based resin composition

The disclosure relates to a resin composition comprising (A) 75-98 parts by weight of a block copolymer mixture of vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and conjugated diolefin and (B) 25-2 parts by weight of an impact-resistant styrene resin, characterized in that said copolymer mixture (A) is a mixture of a copolymer (1) and a copolymer (2) (the weight ratio of the copolymer (1) to the copolymer (2) is 1.5 or more), the copolymer (1) being a copolymer which contains 55-85% by weight of vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon, consists of at least one vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer block and at least one conjugated diene polymer block, and has a number average molecular weight of about 10,000 to about 500,000 and the copolymer (2) being a homopolymer of vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon or a copolymer which consists of at least one vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon polymer block and at least one conjugated diene polymer block, the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon content of said copolymer being 75% by weight or more and at least 5% by weight higher than that of the copolymer (1), said homopolymer or copolymer having a number average molecular weight of about 500 to about 130,000, both of said copolymer (1) and said copolymer (2) being obtained by polymerization in an inert organic solvent with an organolithium compound as a catalyst; and that said impact-resistant styrene resin (B) is a polymer obtained by graft-polymerizing 3-12% by weight of a rubbery conjugated diene polymer and 97-88% by weight of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon. The said resin composition is far superior to conventional resin compositions of similar type in balance between impact resistance and transparency.
