Journal ArticleDOI

A study of methods to estimate visibility based on weather conditions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the effects of different types of disasters on the environment and propose a method to reduce the impact of such disasters on outdoor environments, such as hurricanes and floods.
Journal ArticleDOI

The influences of temperature and normal load on the shear strength of snow consisting of precipitation particles

TL;DR: In this article, an experiment using artificial snow consisting of dendritic crystals was conducted to clarify the influences of temperature and normal load on temporal variations in the shear strength of snow, and the measured SFI values were treated with the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion to find the snow cohesion factor C and the internal friction factor tanϕ.
Journal ArticleDOI

How Drivers Perceive Visibility in Blowing Snow: Human Subject Experiments on Visibility—Viewing Videos of Blowing Snow

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted subject experiments with road videos in blowing snow conditions to clarify the difference between visibility perceived by drivers and that measured with a visibility meter, and they found that visibility perception by drivers was approximately 70 m lower than conventionally measured visibility.
