Abstract: Electrical resistivity of Sm1−xGdxS has been measured at temperatures from 4.2 to 300 K. The results show that the compounds with x ⩽ 0.15 are semiconducting and those with x > 0.15 are metallic. The resistivity of the metallic compounds has a minimum at low temperatures. Two transitions induced by pressure are found in the compounds with 0 < x ⩽ 0.15.

Abstract: Magnetic measurements showed that the Neel temperature of CrSb 1− x As x decreases with additions of As. The exchange striction and the pressure effect on the Neel temperature were investigated. The decrease in T N with As additions is discussed by taking account of the strain dependence of the exchange interaction.
