Picture information retrieval system

Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the waiting time of a user by reading picture information of several pages before and after a page being outputted on an output device at present always from a storage device in advance in selecting and retrieving plural pages of the picture information so as to store the information in a buffer memory in the retrieval device. CONSTITUTION: In selecting and retrieving picture information of plural pages by the user, while an optional page in the plural pages selected by displaying it on a CRT display device 8 is being outputted by a hard copy device 9, several pages before and after e said page are read in advance at all times and the result is stored in a picture buffer 4. Thus, in requesting a next page or a preceding page by the user while referencing the display device 8, since the page is read immediately from the picture buffer 4 and outputted from the hard copy device 9, the waiting time for the user is reduced.
