A combination antenna for aircraft application is disclosed. The antenna has a shell similar to that of a conventional VHF communication antenna, but it houses a monopole VHF and a volute GPS antennas. Provisions are made to enable the GPS antenna to be situated beneath the VHF antenna, but yet have full view of the upper hemisphere and avoid interference even though no structural shielding is provided. The combination antenna is mountable on the pre-existing base used for the conventional single VHF communication antenna and is operable with the pre-existing cable used to transmit the signal of the replaced single VHF communication antenna.

Combination GPS and VHF antenna

A dual-band antenna in which EHF signals are connected to one end of a wauide and radiated from the other and wherein a half-dipole for VHF signals is connected to the radiating end of the waveguide and the other half-dipole for VHF is formed by a shield that is coaxial with and surrounds all of the waveguide except the radiating end. VHF signals are coupled to the half-dipole formed by the shield via a matching network.

T-top antenna for omni-directional horizontally-polarized operation

A dual function antenna system and method. A system is provided for using a single antenna for both the reception of low frequency navigational signals, such as LORAN-C, and high frequency communications signals in the VHF region. The antenna is at a remote location from a low frequency receiver and a high frequency transceiver. Both the low frequency and the high frequency signals are coupled to the receiver and transceiver, respectively, over the same transmission line at one end thereof. A preamplifier is provided at the location of the antenna to increase the strength of the low frequency signal applied to the transmission line. A high pass filter is provided to couple the antenna and the transmission line and prevent feedback from the output of the preamplifier from reaching its input. The other end of the transmission line is coupled to the high frequency transceiver by a high pass filter, and to the low frequency receiver by a low pass filter. The preamplifier is supplied with DC power over the transmission line, and includes a current regulator so that the preamplifier may be used with a wide range of supply voltages.

Combined low frequency receive and high frequency transceive antenna system and method

A double omni-directional antenna for use with a transponder is disclosed allowing simultaneous operation within two different frequency bands. A double coaxial line is provided having outer, central, and inner concentric conductors. The outer and central conductors form a coaxial feed for a lower frequency antenna and the central and inner connectors form a coaxial feed for a high frequency antenna. The higher frequency antenna is located directly above the lower frequency antenna and each is either a unipole for vertically polarized radiation or a slot radiator for horizontally polarized radiation.

Double omni-directional antenna

A dual antenna system formed on a common structure includes two antennas operating within different frequency ranges. In one embodiment of the invention the central conductor of a coaxial line defines the receiving element of one antenna and the shield of the coaxial line is employed as the receiving element of the second antenna. A ground plane for the first antenna is coupled to the coaxial shield. In a second embodiment of the invention the central conductor of the coaxial line is electrically divided to serve as the receiving element of both antennas, and the shield of the coaxial line forms a part of the ground element of one of the antennas. Duplexing circuitry connected to the antenna separates the signals received at the two antennas and applies the separated signals to the appropriate receiver or transmitter.
