Abstract: Sea ice clutter was measured using a millimeter wave radar. To determine the sea ice clutter amplitude, we introduce the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). It is found that the sea ice clutter amplitude obeys the log-Weibull distribution which was newly proposed by us for both all data and data within the beam width of an antenna. To suppress such clutter, we have applied the log-Weibull/CFAR procedure to the observed data. It is shown that radar target embedded in sea ice clutter is detected. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
