Journal ArticleDOI

Yeast diversity in the oral microbiota of subjects with periodontitis: Candida albicans and Candida dubliniensis colonize the periodontal pockets.

TL;DR: Interestingly, in spite of the varied profiles of the species present in the mucosa of the three groups analyzed, it was noted that only C. albicans and C. dubliniensis were capable of colonizing the periodontal pockets in patients with chronic periodontitis, whileonly C.Albicans was identified in the subgingiva of healthy individuals and patients with aggressiveperiodontitis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Energetics and geometry of huddling in small mammals

TL;DR: A theoretical analysis shows a variability in the efficiency of huddling, depending on the morphological characteristics of the geometric bodies, and a general mathematical expression is proposed which represents and explains the energetic and geometric specific variations of huddled mammals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geometrical aspects of the energetic effectivenes of huddling in small mammals

TL;DR: A model is proposed to account for the reduction of the relative exposed area of grouped animals anf for the diminution of metabolic rate during huddling to expain mechanistically how changes in energy savings may operate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physiological responses in rufous-collared sparrows to thermal acclimation and seasonal acclimatization

TL;DR: The data support the hypothesis that physiological flexibility in energetic traits is a common feature of avian metabolism, and suggest that rufous-collared sparrows do not use this capacity to cope with minor to moderate fluctuations in environmental conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modulating factors of the energetic effectiveness of huddling in small mammals

TL;DR: The effects of ambient temperature, thermal conductance and ontogeny on the huddling effectiveness in white mice Mus musculus and the Sigmodontine Abrothrix andinus as a model organism are analyzed.
