Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of covalently bound phosphorus-containing groups on the flammability of poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) and low-density polyethylene

TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that poly(vinyl alcohol) copolymers with H3PO4 can be flame retardant to a certain extent by phosphonylation, and that the flame retardance arises in part from a condensed-phase mechanism involving dehydration, crosslinking and intumescent char formation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The flame-retardant effect of diethyl vinyl phosphonate in copolymers with styrene, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile and acrylamide

TL;DR: In this article, a free-radically copolymerized version of deirdyl vinyl phosphonate has been used with styrene, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile and acrylamide to give copolymers containing roughly equal amounts of covalently bound phosphorus.
