More than 300 papers have been published in the last 15years on the topic of green or sustainable (forward) supply chains Looking at the research methodologies employed, only 36 papers apply quantitative models This is in contrast to, for example, the neighboring field of reverse or closed-loop supply chains where several reviews on respective quantitative models have already been provided The paper summarizes research on quantitative models for forward supply chains and thereby contributes to the further substantiation of the field While different kinds of models are applied, it is evident that the social side of sustainability is not taken into account On the environmental side, life-cycle assessment based approaches and impact criteria clearly dominate On the modeling side there are three dominant approaches: equilibrium models, multi-criteria decision making and analytical hierarchy process There has been only limited empirical research so far The paper ends with suggestions for future research

In this paper we propose a model for the application of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and wireless sensors in food logistics to ensure the products’ quality and the traceability along the supply chain, from farms to consumers. The wireless sensors can detect the conditions of the food quality and transmit the information to the RFID tags. The RFID tags can also record other information such as the expired date and communicate with the computer system through the RFID reader. Once the low qualities of products or bad conditions of storage environment are detected, some reactions such as enhancing the package or removing the bad products can be taken immediately in the distribution centers. According to the information on the smart tags, the distribution and the vehicle routing plans are determined to maintain better qualities of the food products when they arrive at the retailers.

A Model for Intelligent Transportation of Perishable Products

This paper aims at developing a flood emergency logistics database for geographic information system. By applying of the data processing and network analysis functions of geographic information system, the flooding potential areas maps can be utilized for estimating the possible locations of rescue demand points and the amounts of rescue equipment. The relevant input data for flood emergency logistics planning can be provided by this geographically-referenced database. Finally, a real study is presented for demonstration.

This paper proposes a new design of the bi-directional automated guided vehicle (AGV) system, in which two AGVs can exchange their loads, the scheduled transportation tasks and even their vehicle numbers when they are moving in opposite directions and stop in front of each other With the exchangeable AGV (EX-AGV) system, the common problems such as conflicts and deadlocks no longer exist and lots of unnecessary waiting time and detours can be avoided A model, a solution algorithm framework and some on-line control polices are proposed A simulation of the EX-AGV system is carried out and the result shows that the system is of well performance
