The invention relates to a method for producing fluorescent inorganic nanoparticles, whereby the nanoparticles are comprised of a host material containing at least one dopant. The inventive synthesis involving the use of organic solvents results in a significantly better yield than that achieved in prior art water synthesis. Articles of all types can be advantageously marked and, by using automated methods, can be reliably authenticated based on a characteristic emission. In addition, the size distribution of the produced nanoparticles is tighter thus rendering a subsequent separation according to size unnecessary.

Synthesis of nanoparticles

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing metal nanoparticles, more particularly to a method for manufacturing metal nanoparticles, which includes: preparing a mixed solution including capping molecules, a metal catalyst, a reducing agent, and an organic solvent; adding a metal precursor to the mixed solution and raising to a predetermined temperature and stirring; and lowering the temperature of the mixed solution and producing nanoparticles. Embodiments of the invention allow the synthesis of nanoparticles, such as of single metals, metal alloys, or metal oxides, to a high concentration in a water base using a metal catalyst.

SOLUTION: This production method comprises the steps of: preparing an alkaline colloidal solution formed of a dispersive colloidal solution of Pd and Ag, a reducing agent and an alkaline substance; and adding an aqueous solution of a Ni salt into the colloidal solution to produce Ni particles. A Pd content in the colloidal solution is controlled into 10 to 500 mass ppm, an Ag content into 0.1 to 5 mass ppm, and a content of a protective colloidal agent into 0.02 to 1 mass% each with respect to an amount of Ni in the aqueous solution of the Ni salt. These contents can be further reduced by controlling a mass ratio of Pd, Ag and the protective colloidal agent into a predetermined range. The production method provides a spherical nickel powder which has a small average particle diameter, a uniform particle size distribution and adequate dispersibility, and contains few coarse particles. At least two types of fluid to be processed are used, including a metal fluid in which a metal or a metal compound is dissolved in a solvent, and a reducing agent fluid which includes a reducing agent. Sulfate ions are included in one or both of the metal fluid and the reducing agent fluid. The fluid to be processed is mixed in a thin film fluid formed between at least two processing surfaces, at least one of which rotates relative to the other, and which are disposed facing each other and capable of approaching and separating from each other, and metal microparticles are precipitated. The present invention is characterized in that at this time, the ratio (d/D) of the crystallite diameter (d) of the metal microparticles to the particle diameter (D) of the metal microparticles is controlled by controlling the molar ratio of metal and sulfate ions in the mixed fluid to be processed.

SOLUTION: A reductant solution obtained by dissolving caustic alkali and hydrazine or hydrazine hydrate into a solvent at least containing a polyhydric alcohol and a <=4C monohydric alcohol is prepared. Further, a metallic salt solution obtained by dissolving a metallic salt into a solvent at least containing a polyhydric alcohol and a <=4C monohydric alcohol is prepared. The reductant solution and the metallic salt solution are mixed. Thus, metallic salt is reduced by hydrazine or hydrazine hydrate to precipitate the metal powder.

This metallic salt solution is mixed with a reducing agent solution, and are brought into reduction reaction to generate nickel powder. Further, the control of the precipitation potential A of copper is performed by adding a complexing agent forming a complex with copper.
