An effective internal value chain for a firm is to gain competitive advantage, which a large set of resources circulate to add value to the final product or service. Knowledge, as a key resource, can circulate across the internal value chain for a firm's better performance. However, there is a lack of a systematic mechanism for a sustainable flow of knowledge across a firm's internal value chain. This study develops a customized procedure to ensure an efficient knowledge flow across the firm's internal departments. Based on the literature review and best practices from the case study, a four-step customized procedure is outlined.

A Customized Procedure for Product Knowledge Flow Across a Firm's Internal Value Chain

The hierarchical Detailed Value Chain Model and Elementary Management Cycle model of educational domain knowledge content updating is formally described and computerized process measures are proposed. The paper provides a method for updating the knowledge of the analyzed domain, referred to as “enterprise domain”, based on enterprise modelling in terms of management information interactions. A method, whose formal DVCM and EMC descriptions are provided in BPMN notation, was designed, allowing to develop a two-level (granular) model for describing knowledge of educational domain management information interactions. In implementing this model and its algorithms in technological terms, a subsystem of enterprise knowledge has been created in a knowledge-based CASE system (computerized knowledge-based IS engineering), performing the function of a domain knowledge database. This method is suitable to discover content related to the business enterprise activities and enterprise software development. The main outcome of enterprise modeling approach is the effectiveness of discovering of the deep knowledge, when education domain frameworks are applicable. A computerized management knowledge measure was created that can be applied not only in chosen subject area updating, but other areas as well, such as: the creation and updating of business knowledge bases, the development of BI measures by implementing knowledge bases, the evaluation of the fullness of accumulated repositories’ content.

Method of Educational Domain Knowledge Content Updating Based on Management Information Interactions

The modified Value Chain Model (VCM) of curricula related to a particular problem is formally described and it's process measures are proposed. The major components of the domain knowledge (modified VCM) are management functions and information flows related by a control loop to the processes in the problem domain. The formal description of the information transformations of a particular management function is defined as an Elementary Management Cycle (EMC). The modified VCM-based framework for the refinement of curricula content is developed and discussed.

The Refinement of Curricula Content Based on a Problem Domain Model

PurposeKnowledge is a critical asset that places contractor organisations at a competitive advantage when they take part in competitive tendering. However, a dearth of literature exists on the mechanisms that contractor organisations can adopt to utilise knowledge to gain competitive advantage and win tenders through competitive tendering.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted an interpretive stance with a qualitative approach that comprised a literature review, 15 expert interviews and three case studies. The literature review and expert interview findings were used to develop an intermediate framework of knowledge value chain (KVC), while the case study findings were used to develop the final KVC framework with the intermediate framework as the basis.FindingsThe study developed, in three distinctive steps, a KVC framework based on Powell's (2001) KVC for use by the tendering divisions/units of contractor organisations employing quantity surveyors (QSs) to handle tendering work and to increase their chances of winning tenders.Originality/valueThe study developed a KVC framework for the use of contractor organisations to maximise their chances of winning tenders in the field of quantity surveying.

A “knowledge value chain” framework for contractor organisations to maximise chances of winning tenders

As a business environment rapidly changes, closer connected activities have been involved in the buyer-supplier relationship. Supply chain management is effective in integrating the production, operational, or strategic activities in buyer-seller relationships. The investigation of supply chain integrated performance aims to efficiently and efficiently satisfies customer needs and enhances customer satisfaction that this is the key element for processing competitive advantage. Knowledge value chain (KVC) is a sequence of intellectual tasks by which knowledge works build their employer’s unique competitive advantage and/or social and environmental benefit. KVC will discuss how it enabled the corporation improve and develop the most competitive advantage position. Therefore, in this paper, we use KVC model implemented for supply chain management performance. Firstly, supply chain management and comprehensive supply chain framework are discussed. Secondly, a framework of thinking about knowledge creation and application is processed and evidence of knowledge value chain management is presented through an examination of literature theory citations to practice. Thirdly, we discuses how the KCM and KVC can be used as a tool to assess and inventory organization current KM and propose the KCM and KVC as a framework for understanding KM applications and technologies. Finally, conceptual of knowledge based on supply chain and performance are discussed.
