Journal ArticleDOI
Two-dimensional strain profiles in patients with physiological and pathological hypertrophy and preserved left ventricular systolic function: a comparative analyses
Luis Afonso,Ashok Kondur,Mengistu Simegn,Ashutosh Niraj,Pawan Hari,Ramanjit Kaur,Preeti Ramappa,Jyotiranjan Pradhan,Deepti Bhandare,Kim A. Williams,Sandip Zalawadiya,Aurelio Pinheiro,Theodore P. Abraham +12 more
TL;DR: 2DS (AFI) allows rapid characterisation of regional and global systolic function and may have the potential to differentiate HCM from variant forms of LVH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meta-Analysis Comparing Torsemide Versus Furosemide in Patients With Heart Failure.
Bishoy Abraham,Michael Megaly,Mina Sous,Mina Fransawyalkomos,Marwan Saad,Robert Fraser,Joel Topf,Steven R. Goldsmith,Mengistu Simegn,Bradley A. Bart,Zain Azzo,Nancy Mesiha,Rajaninder Sharma +12 more
TL;DR: Torsemide use was associated with significant more improvement in functional status and lower cardiac mortality; and numerically fewer hospitalizations in patients with heart failure; and there was no difference in all-cause mortality or medication side effects between the 2 groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kidney Transplant List Status and Outcomes in the ISCHEMIA-CKD Trial
Charles A. Herzog,Mengistu Simegn,Yifan Xu,Salvatore P. Costa,Roy O. Mathew,Mohammad El-Hajjar,Sanjeev Gulati,Rafael A. Maldonado,Eric Daugas,Magdelena Madero,Jerome L. Fleg,Rebecca Anthopolos,Gregg W. Stone,Mandeep S. Sidhu,David J. Maron,Judith S. Hochman,Sripal Bangalore +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared outcomes of patients not listed versus those listed according to management strategy in the ISCHEMIA-CKD trial and found that an invasive strategy in kidney transplant candidates did not improve outcomes compared with conservative management.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors of stroke in patients with severe systolic dysfunction in sinus rhythm: Role of echocardiography
Nitin Mahajan,Joya Ganguly,Mengistu Simegn,Pratik Bhattacharya,Lakshmi Shankar,Ramesh Madhavan,Seemant Chaturvedi,Preeti Ramappa,Luis Afonso +8 more
TL;DR: LV non-compaction, aneurysm, spontaneous echo-contrast and pulmonary hypertension are associated with an increased risk of stroke, and anticoagulation of these high-risk subgroups appears reasonable.
Journal ArticleDOI
Usefulness of microalbuminuria in patients with the metabolic syndrome to predict subclinical atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease outcomes.
Luis Afonso,Pawan Hari,Ashok Kondur,Vikas Veeranna,Palaniappan Manickam,Mengistu Simegn,Sony Jacob,Brian A. Ference +7 more
TL;DR: St stratification by MA can help identify a high-risk subset of nondiabetic patients with the MS, and the MS plus MA group showed a consistently stronger association with the markers of systemic inflammation, subclinical atherosclerosis, and most clinical end points compared to the other study groups.
