Clinical outcomes of health-care-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance in patients admitted to European intensive-care units: a cohort study
Marie-Laurence Lambert,Carl Suetens,A Savey,Mercedes Palomar,Michael Hiesmayr,Ingrid Morales,Antonella Agodi,Uwe Frank,Karl Mertens,Martin Schumacher,Martin Wolkewitz +10 more
TL;DR: Health-care-associated bloodstream infections and pneumonia greatly increase mortality and pneumonia increase length of stay in intensive-care units; the additional effect of the most common antimicrobial resistance patterns is comparatively low.
Journal ArticleDOI
Value of differential quantitative blood cultures in the diagnosis of catheter-related sepsis
J A Capdevila,A.M. Planes,Mercedes Palomar,Gasser I,Benito Almirante,Albert Pahissa,E Crespo,Jose M. Martinez-Vazquez +7 more
TL;DR: Differential quantitative blood culture is a reliable method for the diagnosis of catheter-associated sepsis without catheter removal as well as a reliable discriminative value for application without removal of the inserted catheter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Candiduria in critically ill patients admitted to intensive care medical units
Francisco Álvarez-Lerma,Juan Nolla-Salas,Cristóbal León,Mercedes Palomar,R Jordá,Nieves Carrasco,Felipe Bobillo +6 more
TL;DR: Twenty-two percent of critically ill patients admitted for more than 7 days in the ICU developed candiduria, and C. albicans was the most frequent causative pathogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of a National Multimodal Intervention to Prevent Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infection in the ICU: The Spanish Experience
Mercedes Palomar,Mercedes Palomar,Francisco Álvarez-Lerma,Alba Riera,María Teresa Díaz,Ferran Torres,Yolanda Agra,Itziar Larizgoitia,Christine A. Goeschel,Peter J. Pronovost +9 more
TL;DR: Results of the Bacteremia Zero project confirmed that the intervention significantly reduced catheter-related bloodstream infection after large-scale implementation in Spanish ICUs, and suggested that the Intervention can also be effective in different socioeconomic contexts even with decentralized health systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Economic impact of Candida colonization and Candida infection in the critically ill patient.
P Olaechea,Mercedes Palomar,C. León-Gil,Francisco Álvarez-Lerma,R Jordá,Juan Nolla-Salas,M. A. León-Regidor +6 more
