Journal ArticleDOI
The role of brain sparing in the prediction of adverse outcomes in intrauterine growth restriction: results of the multicenter PORTO Study
Karen Flood,Julia Unterscheider,Sean Daly,Michael Geary,Mairead Kennelly,Fionnuala M. McAuliffe,Keelin O'Donoghue,Alyson Hunter,John J. Morrison,Gerard Burke,Patrick Dicker,Elizabeth Tully,Fergal D. Malone +12 more
TL;DR: Irrespective of the CPR calculation used, brain sparing is significantly associated with an adverse perinatal outcome in IUGR, which adds further weight to integrating CPR evaluation into the clinical assessment of IugR pregnancies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Successful reduction of massive postpartum haemorrhage by use of guidelines and staff education
TL;DR: There was a significant reduction in the incidence of massive postpartum haemorrhage to 0.45%, and 100% adherence to the guidelines which resulted in a significant reduce in maternal morbidity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fetal growth restriction and the risk of perinatal mortality-case studies from the multicentre PORTO study.
Julia Unterscheider,Keelin O'Donoghue,Sean Daly,Michael Geary,Mairead Kennelly,Fionnuala M. McAuliffe,Alyson Hunter,John J. Morrison,Gerard Burke,Patrick Dicker,Elizabeth Tully,Fergal D. Malone +11 more
TL;DR: The PNMR in this cohort of prenatally identified IUGR cases was favourable and compares favourably to the overall national rate of 4.1/1,000 births, which can be attributed to increased surveillance and timely delivery.
Journal ArticleDOI
Awareness of fetal movements and care package to reduce fetal mortality (AFFIRM): a stepped wedge, cluster-randomised trial
Jane E. Norman,Alexander E. P. Heazell,Aryelly Rodriguez,Christopher J. Weir,Sarah J. Stock,Catherine Calderwood,Sarah Cunningham Burley,J. Frederik Frøen,Michael Geary,Fionnuala Breathnach,Alyson Hunter,Fionnuala M. McAuliffe,Mary Higgins,Edile Murdoch,Mary Ross-Davie,Janet T Scott,Sonia Whyte,Affirm investigators +17 more
TL;DR: The RFM care package did not reduce the risk of stillbirths and the benefits of a policy that promotes awareness of RFM remains unproven.
Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of cigarette smoking on antenatal growth, birth size, and the insulin-like growth factor axis
P. Jane Pringle,Michael Geary,Charles H. Rodeck,John Kingdom,Simon Kayamba-Kay’s,Peter C. Hindmarsh +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that maternal smoking is associated with an altered placental appearance on ultrasonography, increased umbilical artery blood flow resistance, and a reduction in longitudinal and intraabdominal organ growth.
