Michael H. Banks,Chris W. Clegg,Paul Jackson,Nigel J. Kemp,Elizabeth M. Stafford,Toby D. Wall +5 more
TL;DR: The GHQ-12 was shown to be psychometrically sound in all cases, with the Likert scoring method providing a more acceptable distribution of scores than the more commonly deployed ‘ GHQ score ’ for use in parametric statistical analyses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Validation of the General Health Questionnaire in a young community sample.
TL;DR: Correlations between sub-scales of the GHQ-28 give further evidence for a general factor and the relative independence of the social dysfunction sub-scale and support for the treatment of GHQ scores as a continuous variable in this kind of population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unemployment and Mental Health: Some British Studies
TL;DR: Within the context of the British labor market, 11 investigations into the mental health impact of unemployment are described in this article, which reveal significant decrements for people of all ages as a result of moving into unemployment, and for middle-aged men additional effects of continuing joblessness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unemployment and risk of minor psychiatric disorder in young people: cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence
Michael H. Banks,Paul Jackson +1 more
TL;DR: Longitudinal analyses showed that the experience of unemployment was more likely to create increased symptoms, rather than the reverse, and the association between unemployment and GHQ scores was shown to be present after controlling for sex, ethnic group and educational qualification differences.
