Journal ArticleDOI

Measuring flow velocity and flow direction by spatial and temporal analysis of flow fluctuations.

TL;DR: It is shown by means of particle image velocimetry that, if a flow contains fluctuations, these fluctuations propagate with the flow and a cross-correlation of water motion measured at an upstream point with that at a downstream point can provide information about flow velocity and flow direction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kármán vortex street detection by the lateral line.

TL;DR: The authors' data show that the vortex shedding frequency can be retrieved from the responses of anterior lateral line nerve fibers, and if exposed to a Kármán vortex street, the amplitude of spike train frequency spectra increased at the vortex shed frequency.
Journal ArticleDOI

The ability of Rhodnius prolixus (Hemiptera; Reduviidae) to approach a thermal source solely by its infrared radiation

TL;DR: The results show that Rhodnius prolixus can use infrared stimuli to find a host and is able to approach a pure IR source only by its long-wave infrared radiation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hemispheric Asymmetry in Auditory Processing of Speech Envelope Modulations in Prereading Children

TL;DR: Hemispheric specialization for processing syllable rate modulations seems to be mature in prereading children, but hemispheric specialty for phoneme rate modulation processing may still be developing, which could have important implications for the development of phonological and reading skills.
