A compliant contact-aided revolute joint

A stabilized field sensor apparatus collects field data, in particular magnetic field data, with reduced motion noise. The apparatus includes: tear drop shaped housing, tow frame in the housing, a plurality of vibration isolating dampers spaced around the frame, a base assembly mounted to the dampers, a support pedestal having a bottom end fixed to the base assembly and an upper free end, a single spherical air bearing connected to the upper free end of the pedestal, an instrument platform with a lower hollow funnel having an upper inside apex supported on the air bearing for a one point support, principal and secondary gyro stabilizers for maintaining pivotal and rotational stability, and at least one field sensor mounted to the instrument platform for collecting the field data while being stabilized against motion noise including vibration, pivoting and rotation from the base assembly, from the tow frame and from the housing.

Stabilization system for sensors on moving platforms

We describe a method of processing geophysical data including at least measured potential field data from a potential field survey of a surveyed region of the earth to provide a three-dimensional representation of the underlying geology of said surveyed region, the method comprising: inputting terrain-corrected potential field data for said surveyed region, said potential field data comprising data for a range of spatial wavelengths, geological features at different depths in said surveyed region being associated with different wavelengths in said range of wavelengths; filtering said potential field data by spatial wavelength to generate a first plurality of filtered sets of potential field data, each relating to a respective wavelength or range of wavelengths, each targeting geological features at a different respective said depth; processing each said filtered set of potential field data, to identify a set of spatial features comprising one or both of line spatial features and point spatial features in each said filtered set of potential field data, and to generate a set of plot data for each said filtered set of potential field data, a said set of plot data representing said identified set of spatial features for a said depth targeted by said filtering; and combining said sets of plot data to generate three-dimensional map data providing a three-dimensional representation of said underlying geology of said surveyed region.

Geophysical data processing systems

A method and apparatus are disclosed for high resolution imaging. The disclosed apparatus includes a low temperature SQUID sensor mounted in close proximity to a dewar thin window. A radiation shield has an extension surrounding the detection coil.

Superconducting quantum interference apparatus and method for high resolution imaging of samples

A flexural pivot bearing includes a pair of members with opposed close-spaced faces which are joined by a web (29), of microscopic thickness, in a plane intersecting the faces. These members and the web are comprised of an integral body (27) of substantially uniform material, and the members are adapted for pivoted mutual flexure about a pivot axis aligned along the web.

A gravity gradiometer for measuring off-diagonal components of the gravitational gradient tensor includes a housing having a pair of electromagnetic shield enclosures (22, 23) arranged one inside the other, and a body (25) including superconducting material mounted within the inner enclosure (23) for fine pivotal flexure about an axis passing substantially through the centre of mass of the aforesaid body. An array of superconducting coils (30) is supported by the outer enclosure (22) and positioned in close proximity to the aforesaid body (25) for diamagnetically applying a rotational force to the body with respect to the axis of flexure and/or for responding by modulation of inductance to pivotal flexure of the body arising from a gravitational gradient across the body. The array is arranged to apply the rotational force in both rotational directions and to respond to flexure in either rotational direction. Also disclosed is a flexural pivot bearing which includes a pair of members (28, 31) with opposed close-spaced faces. These faces are joined by a web (29), of microscopic thickness, in a plane intersecting the faces. The members and the web are formed of an integral body of substantially uniform material, and the members are adapted for pivoted mutual flexure about a pivot axis aligned along said web.
