Journal ArticleDOI
The Wigglesworth Lecture: Insects for studying fundamental problems in biology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Haemolymph ecdysteroid levels and cellular events in the intermoult/moult sequence of Calpodes ethlius.
TL;DR: The largest ecdysteroid peak is seen at 162 hr, 6 hr after the tissues no longer require the prothoracic glands for pupation, and correlates temporally with the cessation of massive synthetic activity in both epidermis and fat body and initiates preparation for pupal synthesis in both tissues.
Journal ArticleDOI
Iron Economy in Insects: Transport, Metabolism, and Storage
Michael Locke,Helen Nichol +1 more
TL;DR: What is known about the role of iron in insect biology is described, pointing to the many problems to be solved.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of the Golgi complex in the isolation and digestion of organelles.
Michael Locke,A.K. Sykes +1 more
TL;DR: The origin of the membranes and lytic enzymes involved in autophagy has been studied in metamorphosing insect fat body and acid phosphatase is present in the inner saccules and microvesicular components of the Golgi complex.
