Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis and Characterization of Poly(phenylene)-Based Anion Exchange Membranes for Alkaline Fuel Cells
TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of anion exchange membranes based on a poly(phenylene) backbone prepared by a Diels−Alder reaction is demonstrated, and they have hydroxide ion conductivities as high as 50 mS/cm in liquid water.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transport Properties of Hydroxide and Proton Conducting Membranes
Michael R. Hibbs,Michael A. Hickner,Todd M. Alam,Sarah K. McIntyre,Cy Fujimoto,Chris J. Cornelius +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a chloromethylated polymer with a polysulfone backbone was synthesized, and 1H NMR spectroscopy was performed to determine the chlorometthyl content and its position on the polymer structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Backbone stability of quaternized polyaromatics for alkaline membrane fuel cells
TL;DR: The backbone stability of benzyl-trimethyl ammonium functionalized polyaromatics was investigated in two structurally differing polymer architectures; quaternized poly(arylene ether) (PAE) and poly(phenylene) (PP).
Journal ArticleDOI
Alkaline stability of poly(phenylene)-based anion exchange membranes with various cations
TL;DR: Anion exchange membranes comprised of a poly(phenylene) backbone and one of five different cationic head-groups are prepared, briefly characterized, and tested for stability in 4 M KOH at 90 °C as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resonance Stabilized Perfluorinated Ionomers for Alkaline Membrane Fuel Cells
TL;DR: In this article, pentamethylguanidinium functionalized, perfluorinated hydroxide conducting ionomers for alkaline membrane fuel cells were prepared and characterized.
