A product information display system has electronic display tags (20) for displaying pricing and product information for products in stores or warehouses. The electronic display tags (20) are electromagnetically coupled to a conductor (423). A control circuit is used to generate an information signal which contains a tag address and related data. A modulator circuit modulates an ac power signal with the information signal and applies it to the conductor for transmission to the display tags (20). Each of the display tags (20) is equipped with a coil that is electromagnetically coupled to the conductor for picking up the signals carried by the conductor.

Article-information display system using electronically controlled tags

An implantable medical device telemetry system provides a means for decoding telemetry downlink information transmitted from an external unit to an implanted medical device, and for encoding telemetry uplink signals to be transmitted from the implanted device to the external unit. A novel system architecture results in a very small telemetry subsystem in the implanted device and a very flexible system adaptable to be used in conjunction with various telemetry formats of various implanted devices. A programmable logic array (PLA) structure that is mask programmable and which may further be partially RAM programmable serves as the basis of the telemetry subsystem. For downlink telemetry, a counter is enabled during intervals of interest in the downlink RF burst stream. The counter value at the end of such an interval is then applied to the variable inputs of the PLA for decoding in accordance with a selected telemetry protocol. For uplink telemetry, the counter and PLA is used to control transmission of uplink telemetry pulses, such that pulses are pulse-position modulated in accordance with data to be transmitted. Various different telemetry protocols may be supported by the same telemetry circuit, which may be mask-programmed at the time of manufacture to be compatible with one or more different telemetry protocols.

Pacemaker telemetry system

A regenerative electrical stimulation device comprising a stimulator portion to be surgically implanted in patients and an external controller portion. The implanted stimulator portion provides electrical stimuli of selected parameters to damaged nerve tissue to stimulate regeneration and/or healing of the damaged nerve tissue. The external controller portion communicates with the implanted stimulator portion to turn the stimulator portion on and off, to change the parameters of the electrical stimuli, to recharge the batteries, and to monitor the :status of the batteries. The implanted portion has an antenna coil, a receiver, a programmable control processor, rechargeable batteries, and a passive transmitter. The external controller portion has an antenna coil, a control processor, a transmitter, a receiver for receiving the data passively transmitted by the implantable portion, and a display means.

Regenerative electrical stimulator.

When supplying a power from a base station to a terminal station on radio and a distance from a base station to a terminal station is long, it becomes impossible for the terminal station to rectify the power. The feature of the present invention is found in a wireless communication system in which the peak value and duty ratio of a transmission power are controlled simultaneously, keeping the transmission power of a base station below a fixed value, thereby allowing a voltage to be applied to a diode, which is a component of a rectifier circuit possessed by a terminal station, always in excess of a threshold voltage of the diode, and energy is exchanged between the base station and the terminal station below a limit power.

Transmitter and wireless system using the same

An apparatus for transcutaneously transmitting power and communication signals to an implantable device. The apparatus can include generators for power and information signals; receivers; and a coupler for independently coupling the power signal and a first information signal. An internal unit can have receivers for power and information signals; a second signal generator; and an independent coupler. The first and second information signal can be transmitted at a frequency greater than the power frequency. The external unit can also include a signal conditioner for symmetrically transceiving the first and second information signals; and an external data controller for symmetrically controlling the information signals. The internal unit can also include a voltage regulator converter; an internal signal conditioner for symmetrically transceiving the information signals; and a data controller. Symmetrically controlling can include ASK modulation of a data signal upon an RF carrier signal.

Transcutaneous energy and information transmission apparatus

A device for the bi-directional transmission of data between a master system and a slave system uses a single transmission antenna and a single reception antenna each tuned to the same frequency; the master system comprises first data transmission circuits for transmitting first data to the slave system by modulating an electromagnetic signal at the frequency; detection circuits for detecting, during the transmission of the electromagnetic signal, variations in electrical characteristics of the master system induced by a modulation of the impedance of the slave system as a function of second data to be transmitted from the slave system to the master system; and restoring circuits for restoring the second data on the basis of the detected variations; and the slave system comprises reception circuits connected to the reception antenna for restoring the first data; a rectifier circuit connected across the reception antenna for rectifying an electrical signal induced in the reception antenna by the electromagnetic signal; a power supply circuit connected to the rectifier circuit for powering the circuits and the loads of the slave system with a DC voltage on the basis of energy from the rectified electrical signal; and a switching circuit connected in series between the rectifier circuit and the power supply circuit to modulate the real part of the impedance of the slave system between a high value and a low value when the switching circuit is driven in its opened and closed position by a control signal representative of the second data.
