Light source device, optical device, and liquid-crystal display device

An illumination system (10) having an automated calibration system (62) for adjusting the light intensity of individual elements (14) of an array of light emitting elements (12). An optical sensor (30) can be positioned in several locations (A,B,C) to sense incident light from a spatial light modulator (20) as the modulator is sequentially actuated one zone (50) at a time. The light output from each zone (50) of the spatial light modulator is characterized and compared to a golden standard, and the light emitting elements of the array associated with illuminating the zones that are deficient in light are ascertained. Adjustment circuitry (62) responsively adjusts and increases the drive current to the associated light emitting elements (14) that are deficient in light output. A look-up table is utilized to determine which LEDs (14) need adjustment to their drive currents to insure uniform illumination in the process and cross-process direction at an image plane. The present invention is ideally suitable for xerographic printers.

Illumination system having an intensity calibration system

An organic vertical cavity laser light producing device (10) comprises a substrate (20). A plurality of laser emitters (200) emits laser light in a direction orthogonal to the substrate. Each laser emitter within the plurality of laser emitters has a first lateral mode structure in a first axis orthogonal to the laser light direction and has a second lateral mode structure in a second axis orthogonal to both the laser light direction and the first axis. Each laser emitter comprises a first mirror provided on a top surface of the substrate (20) and is reflective to light over a predetermined range of wavelengths. An organic active region (40) produces laser light (350). A second mirror is provided above the organic active region and is reflective to light over a predetermined range of wavelengths. A pumping means excites the plurality of laser emitters.

Organic vertical cavity laser and imaging system

An imaging (e.g., lithographic) apparatus for generating an elongated concentrated scan image on an imaging surface of a scan structure (e.g., a drum cylinder) that moves in a process (cross-scan) direction. The apparatus includes a spatial light modulator having a two-dimensional array of light modulating elements for modulating a two-dimensional light field in response to predetermined scan image data, and an anamorphic optical system is used to anamorphically image and concentrate the modulated light onto an elongated imaging region defined on the imaging surface. To avoid smearing, movement of the imaging surface is synchronized by an image position controller with the modulated states of the light modulating elements such that image features of the scan image are scrolled (moved in the cross-scan direction) at the same rate as the cross-scan movement of the imaging surface, whereby the features remain coincident with the same portion of the imaging surface.

Single-pass imaging apparatus with image data scrolling for improved resolution contrast and exposure extent

An LED indication lamp has desired luminous intensity distribution characteristics without need for any light-emitting diode of a special shape. The LED indication lamp comprising a plurality of light-emitting diodes and having specified luminous intensity distribution characteristics is further provided with a condenser lens. The light-emitting diodes are arranged in a pattern corresponding to a luminous intensity distribution pattern determined according to the luminous intensity distribution characteristics. The light-emitting diodes thus arranged and the condenser lens are arranged so that light emitted from the light-emitting diodes in the luminous intensity distribution pattern through the condenser lens satisfies the luminous intensity distribution characteristics.

LED indicator lamp

An illumination system (10,30,100,130,150,180,200) for hard copy applications including an elongated array (32) of light emitting elements (34) in combination with a light mixing element (42,46) for mixing the light from the individual elements in the lateral or cross-process direction. A curved array (32) or linear array (102) of light emitting elements with an aspheric lens (108) may be utilized, with a cylindrical lens (36,106) compressing the beam of light in the vertical or process direction. The light mixing elements (42,46) are preferably comprised of holographic diffusers. Sufficient mixing of the light from the array is achieved in the cross-process direction whereby a reduction in light output of one light emitting element does not generate a significant localized reduction in intensity at the elongated spatial light modulator. Preferably, the spatial light modulator is a digital micromirror device (DMD), but may also comprise of other devices including those of the transmissive type, including liquid crystal devices.

Illumination system for hard copy apparatus

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly illuminate a slender DMD mirror array with strong light by mixing light from a slender array of a light-emitting device and by providing a slender spatial light modulator illuminated with the mixed light. SOLUTION: A system 10 comprises a slender array 12 of a light-emitting device 14 and the light output from each element 14 is completely mixed in a lateral direction by a light distributing device 16. The mixed light from the distributing device 16 is thereafter fed on a slender spatial light modulator 18. The spatial light modulator 18 modulates the incident light to form a light image and the light image is fed into a projecting lens 20. The projecting lens 20 focuses the image forming light from the spatial light modulator 18 onto an image plane 22 of a light exposure module. Lenses 26, 28 efficiently compress and focuse a slender light beam from the slender array 12 and image the light from the light-emitting device onto the spatial light modulator 18.
