A lubricating oil composition formulated with a viscosity index (VI) improver composition including a combination of an ethylene α-olefin copolymer having no greater than 66 mass % of units derived from ethylene, and a linear diblock copolymer including at least one block derived primarily from a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomer, and at least one block derived primarily from diene monomer.

Lubricating oil compositions.

The use to e of tetrafluoropropenes, particularly (HFO-1234) in a variety of applications, including refrigeration equipment, is disclosed. These materials are generally useful as refrigerants for heating and cooling, as blowing agents, as aerosol propellants, as solvent composition, and as fire extinguishing and suppressing agents.

Compositions containing fluorine substituted olefins

A refrigerator oil composition prepared by blending a base oil comprising a mineral or synthetic oil with at least one member selected from the group consisting of metal salts of inorganic phosphoric acid (e.g. potassium phosphate), amine salts of inorganic phosphoric acid (e.g. octylamine salt of phosphoric acid), metal salts of organic phosphoric acid (e.g. dipotassium lauryl phosphate), amine salts of organic phosphoric acid (e.g. monooctylamine salt of dioleyl phosphate), metal salts of organic phosphonic acid (e.g. dipotassium oleylphosphonate), amine salts of organic phosphonic acid (e.g. octylamine salt of dilaurylphosphonic acid), metal salts of organic phosphorous acid (e.g. sodium dioleyl phosphite), and amine salts of organic phosphorous acid (e.g. oleylamine salt of dioleyl phosphite). The composition has an excellent lubricating performance, improves the lubricity of the interface between an aluminum material and a steel material, can inhibit seizure and wear, and is suitable as a lubricating oil for refrigerators using a hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant which does not cause environmental pollution, such as R134a.

Refrigerator oil composition

A refrigerating machine oil composition which is less apt to cause capillary tube clogging in the case where a hydrofluorocarbon, hydrocarbon, ether, carbon dioxide, or ammonia refrigerant is used. The composition comprises a base oil comprising at least one oxygenic synthetic oil selected among polyvinyl ethers and polyol esters and either a specific polyalkylene glycol alkyl ether or an alkylbenzene having a number-average molecular weight of 100 to 1,000, the amounts of the ether and the alkylbenzene being 1 to 20 wt.% and 1 to 40 wt.%, respectively, based on the whole composition.

Refrigerating machine oil composition

The present invention concerns friction reducers for use in lubricating oil compositions which comprise certain groups of aromatic compounds, esters, narrow mixtures of base stocks, and/or amorphous polymers such as amorphous olefin copolymers. These compositions can provide substantial reductions in the coefficient of friction and fuel economy improving benefits when admixed to lubricating oils without deleterious effects such as instability, undesirable high viscosities and deposits. In one aspect of the invention, pentaerythritol esters and optionally triol esters are added to lubricating oil compositions to provide reduced friction and improved fuel economy. In a second aspect of the invention, similar results are obtained by adding hydrocarbyl aromatics to a lubricating oil composition containing one or more of Groups II and III base stock. In a third aspect, the invention concerns a lubricating oil composition comprising an amorphous olefin copolymer and one or more of Groups II and III base stocks. In one embodiment, the third aspect also includes one or more of hydrocarbyl aromatics and polyol esters as part of the composition. In a forth aspect, moderate concentrations of hydrocarbyl aromatics are used in a lubricating oil composition comprising paraffinic base oil stocks and preferably a borated polyisobutenyl succinimide ashless dispersant.

Lubricating oil compositions with improved friction properties

A refrigerating machine oil composition which comprises a base oil comprising a mineral oil and/or a synthetic oil and, compounded therewith, (a) a partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol with a fatty acid and (b) an acid phosphoric ester or an amine salt thereof; and a refrigerating machine oil composition which comprises a base oil comprising a mineral oil and/or a synthetic oil and, compounded therewith, (a) an acid phosphoric ester or an amine salt thereof, (b) an alkylene oxide adduct of an acetylenic glycol, (c) the potassium salt of a fatty acid, etc., (d) an organic acid, and (e) a fatty acide amide, etc. The compositions have excellent lubricating performace and produce a satisfactory friction-reducing effect in either an oily region or an extreme pressure region, especially in friction between an aluminum material and an iron material.

Refrigerating machine oil compositions

Polyalkyleneglycol (PAG) and polyol ester (POE) have been developed as refrigeration lubricants, used with HFC134a. PAG is used for automotive air conditioning systems and POE is used for domestic reciprocating refrigerators and for A/C systems. Although PAG exhibits good lubricity performance, it is difficult to use for domestic reciprocating refrigerators due to its low dielectric property. POE is difficult to use for automotive A/C systems, due to hydrolysis and poor lubricity performance. Polyvinylether (PVE) can be used in place of PAG and POE with HFC refrigerants. PVE is used for A/C systems as well as refrigerator and freezer applications. PVE is an ideal lubricant for use with HFCs.
