Techniques for providing eyewear with electrical components are disclosed. The electrical components can provide electrical technology to eyewear (e.g., eyeglasses) without having to substantially compromise aesthetic design principles of the eyewear. Often, the electrical components can be attached to the eyewear as an after-market enhancement. The electrical components can operate independently or together with other electrical components provided elsewhere.

Eyewear having radiation monitoring capability is disclosed. Radiation, such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation, infrared (IR) radiation or light, can be measured by a detector. The measured radiation can then be used in providing radiation-related information to a user of the eyewear. Advantageously, the user of the eyewear is able to easily monitor their exposure to radiation.

In one embodiment, an eyewear for a user includes an eyewear frame, electrical circuitry at least partially in the eyewear frame, and a touch sensitive input surface on the eyewear frame configured to provide an input to the electrical circuitry to perform a function via touching the touch sensitive input surface. In another embodiment, the eyewear includes a switch with at least two operational states. The operational states of the switch can be configured to be changed by sliding a finger across the touch sensitive input surface of the frame.

An eye pointer was developed as a new line-of-sight displacement analyser. It analyses an observer's eye movements and superimposes their line of vision on a TV image which is the same as their view. A newly developed miniature colour field camera and very compact eye-movement sensors are attached to a translucent reinforced plastic goggle affording a wide view and excellent safety. A small case is provided for the eye-movement detecting circuit and the camera controller unit etc. Its weight is only 1.2 kg and one can easily participate in sports activities while wearing it. Eye-movement data are transmitted with the VHF video signal. The receiver, which analyses the eye movements and processes the TV image, is also compact and easy to carry. The calibration is automatic and completed within 1 min with a high degree of accuracy. By showing the tennis player's line of vision as an example, we were able to obtain good results with application in broadcasting programmes.
